Job Title: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Orthopedics
Location: York, Maine 03909
Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: 36 Hours/Week – 4 x 9-Hour Day Shifts
Shift Hours: Scheduled between 6:45 AM – 4:15 PM
On-Call: Required (Must be able to return to facility within 45 minutes)
Compensation

Local Weekly Pay: $1,400 – $1,700 (based on experience)

Travel Weekly Gross: $1,700 – $2,000 (based on experience)
Position Overview
A well-established community hospital in Southern Maine is seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join its Operating Room team for a 13-week assignment. This role focuses heavily on orthopedic procedures, and prior orthopedic surgical experience is required.
The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in maintaining a sterile field, anticipating surgeon needs, and supporting complex orthopedic cases including total joints, trauma, spine, and sports medicine procedures.
ResponsibilitiesSurgical Preparation & Sterile Field

Prepare and maintain sterile field for orthopedic procedures

Set up orthopedic instrument trays (total joints, trauma, spine, sports medicine)

Perform surgical counts (sponges, sharps, instruments) per facility policy

Maintain strict sterile technique throughout procedures
Equipment & Implant Management

Ensure power equipment (drills, saws, reamers) is available and functioning

Assemble and test specialty equipment (traction tables, tourniquets, arthroscopy towers)

Verify correct implants and prosthetics (knees, hips, plates, screws, rods) are available

Mix and monitor bone cement timing for joint replacement procedures
Intraoperative Support

Anticipate surgeon’s needs during procedures

Pass instruments, sutures, implants, and supplies efficiently

Assist with patient positioning for orthopedic surgeries

Apply dressings and immobilization devices such as splints and braces
Requirements
-
Active Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential
-
Current BLS certification
-
Minimum 1+ year recent OR experience required
-
Orthopedic surgical experience required
-
Ability to participate in call rotation and respond within 45 minutes
