Construction Estimator for a well established design- build firm specializing in very high end residential projects.
A construction estimator responsible for calculating the anticipated costs of a construction project by analyzing the following factors: materials, labor, equipment, and potential risks, using blueprints and project specifications to create detailed cost estimates for clients and the company, often collaborating with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure accurate pricing and project feasibility; essentially, determine how much a construction project will cost before work begins.
Key responsibilities of a construction estimator:
- Reviewing project documents:
Analyzing blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications to understand the scope of work. - Cost breakdown:
Calculating the cost of materials, labor, equipment rentals, permits, and other relevant expenses.
Gathering quotes:
Obtaining price quotes from subcontractors and suppliers for various aspects of the project.
- Risk assessment:
Identifying potential risks and contingencies that could impact project costs. - Preparing estimates:
Creating comprehensive cost estimates, including detailed breakdowns of materials, labor - Bid preparation:
Developing competitive bids for construction projects, considering market conditions and client requirements. - Cost analysis:
Monitoring project costs throughout construction to identify potential cost overruns and propose corrective actions. - Software proficiency:
Utilizing construction estimating software to calculate quantities, generate reports, and manage project data.
Skills and qualifications for a construction estimator:
- 3-5 Years of Experience.
- Technical knowledge:
Strong understanding of construction methods, building codes, materials, and industry standards. - Analytical skills:
Ability to analyze complex project details and accurately estimate costs. - Communication skills:
Effective communication with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors. - Software proficiency:
Expertise in construction estimating software (e.g., Timberline, QuickBid, On-Screen Takeoff) - Attention to detail:
Ability to thoroughly review project documents and identify potential cost variations. - Negotiation skills:
Negotiating prices with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve the best value.
