Job Title: Quality Control Inspector
Classification: Full-time, Hourly Non-Exempt
Location: Kymera - CASL Houston
Reports To: Operations Manager
Job Overview:
As a Quality Control Inspector specializing in Thermal Spray Coatings, and mechanical parts for the oil and gas industry, you will be responsible for ensuring that all components and assemblies meet stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements. You will perform inspections, tests, and evaluations on mechanical parts, collaborate with engineering and production teams, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in quality processes. Additional duties include Receiving Clerk responsibilities for overseeing the receipt, inspection, and documentation of raw materials, supplies, and equipment arriving from external sources. This role plays a key part in ensuring that shipments are accurate, properly stored, and promptly made available for production.
Responsibilities
Quality Control:
o Inspect incoming shipments to ensure they match purchase orders and delivery documentation.
o Verify that quantities, item descriptions, and condition of materials are correct and undamaged.
o Inspect and document any discrepancies, damage, or missing items, and notify appropriate personnel for resolution.
o Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of mechanical parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measurement tools.
o Evaluate and document findings of inspections, ensuring compliance with standards and specifications.
Quality Assurance:
o Review engineering drawings, specifications, and quality plans to understand inspection criteria and requirements.
o Assess incoming materials and components for compliance with quality requirements.
o Collaborate with production teams to ensure quality is maintained throughout the manufacturing process.
Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and quality-related documentation in compliance with industry standards.
o Prepare and present reports on quality issues, trends, and corrective actions to management.
o Daily scan all receipts, packing slips, invoices, and other relevant documentation and email to the office manager.
Audits and Compliance:
o Assist in internal and external audits to assess compliance with quality management systems and regulatory requirements. Audits and inspections to include but not limited to quality, 5S, Safety.
o Support initiatives for continuous improvement in quality processes, policies, and procedures.
o Lead investigations to determine the root cause of quality escapes.
Communication:
o Work closely with engineers, production staff, and suppliers to address quality concerns and implement corrective actions.
o Provide training and guidance to team members regarding quality standards and inspection techniques.
Safety and Cleanliness:
o Ensure a safe and clean working environment by adhering to all safety regulations, maintaining proper storage practices, and keeping work areas free of hazards.
o Assist in maintaining an organized environment to promote efficiency and reduce operational downtime.

Requirements:
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Inspection expertise: Proficiency in using mechanical inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, bore scopes, and thickness gauges. Ability to conduct visual and dimensional inspections of mechanical parts and incoming shipments.
- Blueprint interpretation: Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
- Technical proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with Word and Excel required; familiarity with PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams is a plus.
- Collaboration and communication: Ability to work cross-functionally with engineers, production teams, and suppliers to address quality concerns and implement solutions. Strong customer service mindset and ability to work in a non-confrontational, team-based environment.
- Quality standards and compliance: Experience working in an ISO 9001-certified environment preferred. Ability to support quality audits, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
- Adaptability: Willingness to take on additional duties as assigned; responsibilities may evolve to meet business needs. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment with shifting priorities.

Education and Experience:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree in machining, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Industry experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a production environment, ensuring adherence to quality control processes and regulatory standards.
- Inspection experience: Minimum 5 years of experience using mechanical inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, bore scopes, and thickness gauges.
- Leadership experience with the ability to train and mentor team members is preferred but not required.
- Thermal spray experience is preferred but not required. Familiarity with coatings and surface treatments in manufacturing environments.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive manual tasks for extended periods.
- Strength to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds unassisted, repeatedly throughout a shift.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching overhead, and climbing ladders or stairs, as needed.
- Capability to pass a respiratory medical evaluation, including hearing and vision exams, and meet all necessary physical qualifications.
- Ability to wear and work comfortably in required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, and steel-toe boots, for prolonged periods.
- Adaptability to work in diverse environments, such as high temperatures, confined spaces, and areas with potential exposure to dust, fumes, and noise.
- Coordination and manual dexterity to safely operate machinery, tools, and equipment while maintaining focus on ergonomics and safety.
