Job DescriptionTitle: LPNReports to:Nurse Manager
Job Summary:
Assists with nursing care of patients, under supervision of RN.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greets patient and provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and supports the patient's right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Stocks all areas of the Center with supplies, stocks refrigerators with nourishment for patients.
- Takes vital signs including patient weights and reports them to RN. Documents appropriately in EMR.
- Performs Point of Care Testing, including Blood Glucose, Pregnancy, and Drugs of Abuse as per RN.
- Assists in the monitoring of patients' physical symptoms and behavioral changes. Reports any concerns to RN.
- Administers preoperative and/or postoperative medications within LPN scope of practice under guidance of the RN. Documents appropriately in EMR.
- Provides nourishments for patients under supervision of RN.
- Assists patients in and out of bed and to the bathroom as per RN.
- Assist patient in dressing as needed.
- Provides patients and families with discharge instructions per the RN. Documents appropriately in EMR.
- Escorts the patients to car after discharge.
- Cleans equipment in all areas of the Center according to manufacturer's recommendations and stores equipment safely.
- Performs room turnover and appropriate room cleaning in all areas of the Center in accordance with Center policy. Northtowns Ambulatory Surgery Center Policy and Procedure Manual
- Performs preoperative and postoperative patient phone calls and documents appropriately in EMR.
- Schedule procedures in EMR as needed.
- Performs other clerical tasks as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Graduate of school for Practical Nursing.
- Active LPN license.
- Prior experience in a physician's office or health care setting.
- Able to speak, read, and write in English.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Ability to sit/stand for a considerable amount of time; ability to walk.
- Visual and auditory acuity for frequent use of computer, telephone, and occasional use of other office equipment.
- Ability to perform occasional overhead and low reaching.
- Physical strength required for equipment needs and patient-care activities.
- Visual and auditory acuity for timely responsiveness and patient-care assessment activities.
- Ability to move quickly in response to center needs.
- Constant and frequent judgment and response.
- Occasional judgment and response to disasters or emergencies, actual events, or drills.
Working Conditions (Environmental)
- Well-lit and ventilated, with non-hazardous and hazardous equipment.
- Category I: involves occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids and materials.
