Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Providing sign language interpretation for middle school students requiring communication support is vital for fostering an inclusive educational environment. This position emphasizes on-site, one-on-one interpretation, supporting a middle school student in their academic journey.

Location:

• Middle school setting in Fayetteville, NC (specifically at a middle school).

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver 1:1 sign language interpretation support to a middle school student, ensuring effective communication in the classroom.
• Facilitate clear understanding between the student and teachers, promoting equitable access to education.
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to meet the students unique communication needs.
• Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and adherence to school policies.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training related to ASL interpreting in educational settings.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Active certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or a minimum Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 (lower scores may be considered).
• Experience working as an ASL interpreter in educational environments, preferably at the middle school level.
• Strong knowledge of American Sign Language and educational interpreting strategies.
• Ability to work effectively one-on-one in an onsite school setting.
• Excellent communication, adaptability, and collaboration skills.

Employment Details:

• Contract position for the current school year (CSY).
• 37.5 hours per week, onsite only.
• Location: Middle school in Fayetteville, NC.
