Summary
This position works collaboratively with other staff members to increase awareness of the Agency’s programs and services and to build positive relationships with key stakeholders, including volunteers, donors, government officials, and community organizations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assists in developing and implementing a comprehensive community relations strategy that aligns with the Agency’s mission and goals.
2. Assists in planning and implementing strategies and activities to promote a positive image to the community. This includes creating social media plan/posts, website management and posting, graphic design and video editing, and help create monthly newsletter.
3. Collaborates with other staff members to ensure that all community relations activities are consistent with the Agency’s branding and messaging.
4. Participates in public relations events such as community outreach, resource fairs, City-wide initiatives, partner agency activities in collaboration with other department staff, and research opportunities for other community outreach.
5. Assists in identifying opportunities to enhance the Agency’s reputation and visibility in the community and provides input into strategies to capitalize on those opportunities.
6. Assists in maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders, including volunteers, donors, government officials, and community organizations.
7. Helps implement and manage grant projects.
8. Serves as a liaison between the Agency and the community, answering questions and addressing concerns as needed.
9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all community relations activities and provide regular reports to the Community Relations Senior Director.
10. Answer the phone as needed and fill out referral and screening forms, as applicable, fully and correctly.
11. Attend program staff meetings as required, agency meetings as mandated, and on-site and off-site trainings as directed.
12. Assist in ensuring a safe and alcohol/drug-free environment.
13. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
2. At least 1-2 years of experience in community relations, public relations, or a related field.
Language and Communication Skills
1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to read and write English fluently.
2. Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear and concise messaging that aligns with the Agency’s branding and messaging.
3. Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members and stakeholders.
4. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Technical Skills
1. Knowledge of social media platforms and how to use them to engage with stakeholders.
2. Proficiency in various computer applications (Adobe Apps, Microsoft App, Office365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in support of project management, research activities, presentations, and social media posts.
Other Requirements
1. Knowledge of 12-Step programs and/or philosophy.
2. Able to work evenings and weekends, as needed, to attend community events and activities.
3. A valid government-issued picture ID.
4. If employee uses his/her personal vehicle to commute to work and/or parks on Agency property, a current California driver’s license is required.
a. If employee has an out-of-state driver’s license, he/she must attain a valid California license no later than 10 days from employment start date.
b. Must maintain current liability insurance coverage on personal vehicle.
c. On occasion, employee may be asked to use their personal vehicle to transport participants/residents to offsite appointments. Standard mileage rate will be reimbursed as applicable.
5. If employee uses an Agency-owned vehicle to transport residents/participants to offsite appointments, a current California driver’s license is required.
a. If employee has an out-of-state driver’s license, he/she must attain a valid California license no later than 10 days from employment start date.
