Automation Engineer – Mechanical Focus
Productivity, Inc is a CNC machine tool distributor headquartered in Plymouth, MN. Additionally, we specialize in integrating automation solutions for the general machining industry and precision machining operations, utilizing FANUC robots. We’re seeking a Robotic Automation Engineer (Mechanical Systems), sometimes called a Mechanical Robotics Engineer or a Mechanical Design Engineer in Robotics & Automation

Responsibilities
- Interpret customer specifications to determine the best solution for the problem within budget and time constraints
- Perform mechanical engineering of end-of-arm tooling and part queuing using Dassault Systems - SolidWorks Software Suite
- Perform robot programming using Fanuc - Roboguide Software Suite and traditional Fanuc teach-pendant programming
- Perform 2D/3D vision applications using Fanuc – iRvision
- Perform risk assessments and advise on safety-related elements
- Create and maintain project documentation related to mechanical drawings
- Work with Automation Technicians during cell build and installation
- Assist in project implementation/installation when the level of complexity is required
- Develop new technologies that can be used in future projects
- Mentor other Engineers and Technicians
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in a Senior Automation / Automation Engineering role.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- 3D design software experience, i.e., Dassault Systems - SolidWorks, Autodesk – Inventor, PTC - Pro/Engineer or Creo, Siemens Solid Edge, or Autodesk – Fusion 360.
- Robot programming experience. i.e., Fanuc Robotics, Yaskawa Motoman, UR - Universal Robots, Han’s Robot, KUKA, ABB, Kawasaki, EPSON, OMRON, or Adept.
- Robot simulation software experience, i.e., Fanuc – Roboguide, RoboDK, ABB – RobotStudio, Robotmaster, or Visual Components.
- 2D/3D vision application experience, i.e., Fanuc – iRvision, Cognex In-Sight, Keyence, Sick, or Pickit.
- Experience with different part presentation methods - conveyors, drawers, carts, shaker tables, bowl feeders.
- Experience in end-of-arm tooling design. Payload calculation, tool frame calculation, avoiding singularity.
- Experience sizing components - robots, conveyors, servos, air cylinders, grippers, vises.
- Experience with designing for manufacturing.
- Machine tool experience helpful.
- Knowledge of safety standards and safety risk assessments.
- Ability to make decisions involving considerable initiative and ingenuity.
- Ability to work independently and in a project-based team environment with minimal supervision
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle report
- Limited overnight travel - approx. 20%
- In-office role - Monday - Friday - 7 AM - 4 PM
