Job Description

The Lease Operator II is responsible for the safe, efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance preparation of wells, processing units, and related production facilities. This role requires a strong operational focus on oil, gas, and water separation systems, along with utilities and supporting equipment. The position supports both routine operations and new facility start-up activities, including the use of operating procedures, work-permitting systems, and required training. The role emphasizes safety, environmental stewardship, operational reliability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor wells, production facilities, and processing equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Maintain personal safety and promote the safety of coworkers by following and enforcing all safety rules and procedures
  • Serve as the primary operational contact for assigned facilities
  • Understand process flow, basic chemistry, major equipment lineups, isolation points, and safety systems
  • Review operational data and system schematics to ensure processes are operating within optimal parameters
  • Perform routine field inspections using sight, sound, smell, and touch to identify abnormal conditions
  • Issue Safe Work Permits and assess chemical, personnel, and process safety risks
  • Conduct gas testing to ensure work areas are safe for maintenance activities
  • Monitor production processes by gauging tanks, reading meters, recording data, collecting samples, and identifying leaks or abnormal conditions
  • Perform visual maintenance by monitoring temperature, pressure, flow, vibration, and other critical parameters
  • Adjust process variables to maintain product quality and operating efficiency
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance such as lubrication, filter changes, tightening fittings, and clearing equipment
  • Coordinate oil sales activities and water hauling as required
  • Maintain accurate production and gauge records and document production changes
  • Inspect and verify correct positioning of valves and control equipment
  • Communicate process conditions and changes with supervisory personnel
  • Perform seasonal equipment preparation activities to support efficient operations
  • Monitor equipment using handheld and computerized monitoring devices
  • Inspect safety equipment including valves, fire protection systems, and breathing apparatus
  • Follow environmental policies and procedures to minimize environmental impact
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work independently when required while supporting overall team objectives
  • Maintain reliable attendance and respond to call-outs as needed

Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; college degree or trade/technical certification preferred
  • Previous experience in a closely related operations role
  • Experience with oil, gas, and water production facilities and surface equipment
  • Water treatment or water technician experience required
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and repair production and processing equipment
  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and be available for call-outs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work in multicultural environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with computer systems and electronic monitoring tools
  • Physical ability to lift over 50 lbs and climb ladders or stairways
  • Ability to use Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and other safety detection equipment

Job Details:

Pay: $34-$43/per hour

Location: Midland, TX

Schedule: Monday-Friday
