This opportunity is for a full-time (36-hours per week) Nursing Supervisor. The position offers full benefits and a schedule of two weeknights 8pm - 8am plus every other Saturday & Sunday 8pm - 8am. The position is eligible for generous shift differential pay in addition to base pay.

What do Nursing Supervisors do at Old Vineyard Behavioral Health Services?

The Nursing Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the delivery of quality nursing care for all patients on all units during their assigned shift. The Nursing Services Supervisor will adjust staffing as necessary for the evening, night and weekend shifts. The Nursing Services Supervisor will oversee all unit activities including, but not limited to, admissions, discharges, crisis intervention, restraint and/or seclusion and relieving for break or meals. The Nursing Services Supervisor manages the Registered Nurses and Mental Health Technicians working on the unit as part of the nursing team. Provides medication for the nursing staff when the Pharmacy is closed. Reports employee performance and/or relations issues to appropriate Nursing Services Manager. The Nursing Services Supervisor will coordinate all medical codes, whether real or mock, and ensure they are carried out appropriately and safely.

Required Education:

Graduate of accredited school of nursing. BNS preferred.

Required Experience:

Requires two (2) years' experience as a Registered Nurse. Prefer one (1) year in psychiatric nursing. Knowledge of current nursing procedures, the nursing process, medications and their correct administration. One (1) year of nursing supervision experience required.

Required Licensure/Certification:

Current NC State Licensed Nurse (or compact state)

AHA CPR & First Aid

Required Skills:

Demonstrated leadership, communication, teaching and supervisory skills. Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, and interventions with patients. Ability to accurately administer medications and treatments. Ability to monitor and record response and side-effects to medications and treatments. Ability to safely implement Special Treatment Procedures. Ability to assist with education of patients and families in medication and care management. Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology including therapeutic relationships & processes, age specific growth & development, limit setting, crisis & behavior management.

Physical Requirements:

Position is physically demanding. Climbing, ability to ascent and descent stairs, ramps, using feet, legs, hands and arms. Ability to maintain equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow or slippery surfaces. Stooping, bending downward and forward by bending at the waist; kneeling by bending at the knees; ability to come to rest on one or both knees. Crouching, crawling. Reaching, extending hands and arms in any direction. Standing for sustained periods of time. Pushing, use of upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust it forward, downward or outward. Pulling; use of upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in sustained motion. Lifting to raise objects from a lower to higher position, moving objects horizontally. Fingering; to pick, pinch or otherwise work with the fingers. Grasping; apply pressure to an object with fingers and palm. Feeling; perceiving attributes of an object such as size, shape, temperature and texture by touching, particularly with fingertips. Repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, fingers or other body parts.

Talking. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word accurately and sometimes loudly.

Hearing. Receiving the nature of sounds of no less than 40 db loss @ Hz 1000, 2000 Hz, with or without correction, and to receive detail communications through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound such as when making adjustments on machine parts.
