GENERAL SUMMARY
The Transcriptionist-Pathology is responsible for transcribing dictated recordings made by physicians and other healthcare professionals into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative materials which typically become part of patients’ permanent files. Most pathology transcription consists of typing descriptions of surgical specimens from biopsied tissue samples.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provides precise transcription of pathology reports (gross description, microscopic description, comments, and diagnoses) quickly and accurately.
- Tasks include transcribing pathology reports, as well as research and administrative documents.
- Responsibilities include coordinating patient case correspondence materials for sending out for consultation.
- Performs accurate transcription of recorded medical dictation into designated report format, as needed to support Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants and selected individual laboratory departments.
- Code reports with appropriate CPT/ICD10 data.
- Transcribe letters, memorandums, send slides and/or blocks. Maintains a record of where slides and blocks are sent and returned.
- Performs other position related duties as assigned.
- Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Registered or Certified medical transcriptionist accredited through the Association for Health Documentation Integrity (AHDI) OR Certified medical transcriptionist accredited through the American Association for Medical Transcription OR American Health Information Management Association.
KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of medical transcription.
- Knowledge of Pathology Information System billing, and Tumor Conference preparation (all genres). Pathologist's Peer Review and CAP Anatomical Tumor Forms preferred as appropriate.
- Good organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent command of English grammar and spelling.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Performs accurate transcription of recorded medical dictation into designated report format, as needed to support Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants and selected individual laboratory departments.
- Computer skills and medical terminology with pathology specialty preferred.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Complies with all health and safety policies of the organization.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree or equivalent training in medical terminology preferred.
- Medical Terminology training.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Six months transcription experience in medical setting required, with pathology experience highly preferred.
