Essential Job Functions:.
- Plans review.
- Review for conflict in utility placements.
- Review for compliance with standard specifications.
- Review for logical layout and design.
- Review for completeness for construction.
- Daily monitoring of construction activities.
- Monitor for compliance with plans.
- Monitor for compliance with standard specifications.
- Monitor for compliance with contract requirements.
- Coordinate with the contractor, project engineer and City Engineer for resolution of problems encountered.
- Coordinate field changes of plans with contractor, project engineer and City Engineer.
- Provide written report of activities to City Engineer.
- Storm Water Pollution Prevention inspections.
- Able to achieve and maintain Tennessee Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control Program certification.
- Inspects for compliance with the erosion control plan.
- Inspects for compliance with City of Bartlett Storm Water Ordinance.
- Recommends corrective actions for violations.
- Provides written report to contractor.
- Submits written reports to the city’s Storm Water Coordinator.
- Acceptance inspections and testing.
- Coordinates with the contractor and monitors hydrostatic testing of water mains to ensure compliance with standard specifications.
- Coordinates and assists with obtaining water samples for bacteriological testing.
- Coordinates with the contractor and checks to ensure all water services function properly.
- Coordinates with the contractor and monitors sewer line and manhole testing to ensure compliance with standard specifications.
- Coordinates with the contractor and performs visual inspections of all storm and sanitary sewer lines and structures to ensure compliance with standard specifications.
- Coordinates with the contractor and performs all required proof rolls of streets.
- Inspects lot grading for conformance to plans.
- Checks and verifies all water valves are in the proper position (open or closed).
- Provides punch list to contractor for items that need to be repaired prior to acceptance.
- Insures that site grading complies with the grading and drainage plans.
- Inspects asphalt paving installation for quality of work.
- Citizen Responses
- Responds to homeowner drainage complaints by meeting with citizens, assessing drainage problems and recommending solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the City Engineer and Assistant City Engineer.08/01/2025
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively and cordially with engineers, contractors, citizens, and fellow staff.
- Ability to recognize problems, identifies their potential affect, and develop alternative strategies for preventing or solving them.
- Ability to learn to read and analyze construction plans, specifications, and contracts.
- Ability to prepare written reports.
- Possess good verbal and writing skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to work in an unsupervised environment.
Education and Experience:
- Requires a valid driver's license, experience dealing with the public, and experience requiring the use of a PC and various Microsoft Office software.
Special Requirements:
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be able to drive & hold a valid TN Driver’s license that must remain valid as condition of continued employment.
- Outside work in all weather conditions is required on a regular basis.
- May need to lift items of 50 lbs. or less.
- Bartlett resident preferred, but not required.
- Must pass a driver’s license and background check and a physical exam, including a drug screen.
Working Conditions:
- Works primarily outside exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
- Frequently exposed to dust and occasionally to dampness and unsanitary conditions.
- Subject to hazards of construction work, equipment, and working around traffic.
- Subject to excessive noise from equipment.
- Subject to heavy lifting.
- Subject to excessive reaching, pulling, pushing, and feeling.
- May require the ability to ascend and descend ladders, structures, and equipment.
- Subject to working in confined spaces.
- Requires crawling, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching.
- Requires sitting, or standing for long periods and extensive walking.
- Must wear all safety equipment following safety regulations.
- Works occasionally in an office setting using a computer.
