The Handyman Mentor is a "player-coach" role responsible for executing complex repairs while supervising and training junior maintenance staff. You will provide hands-on instruction in the field, ensuring that all work meets quality standards, safety codes, and customer expectations. The ideal candidate isn't just a master of tools; they are a patient communicator dedicated to professional development.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Execution & Quality Control

  • Perform high-level repairs & remodels for home owner and property management..

  • Diagnose complex mechanical or structural issues that junior staff cannot resolve.

  • Inspect completed work orders to ensure they meet company standards and local building codes.

2. Mentorship & Training

  • Shadowing & Instruction: Lead "ride-alongs" where you demonstrate proper techniques for tool use, material selection, and repair steps.

  • Skills Assessment: Evaluate the technical proficiency of junior handymen and identify areas for improvement.

  • Safety Coaching: Enforce strict adherence to OSHA standards and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

3. Operational Leadership

  • Workflow Coordination: Assign daily tasks based on the skill levels of the team.

  • Resource Management: Oversee tool inventory and advise on the procurement of specialized equipment or materials.

  • Client Relations: Handle escalated customer concerns with professionalism, modeling excellent service for trainees.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Category Requirements: Must be able to pass a background check

Experience 5+ years of professional handyman/maintenance experience; 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory role.

Technical Breadth Proficiency in drywall, painting, basic plumbing (leaks/fixtures), basic electrical (switches/outlets), and carpentry.

Certifications High school diploma/GED required. Trade certifications or a General Contractor’s license are a major plus.

Soft Skills High emotional intelligence, patience for teaching, and the ability to give constructive feedback without being "the bossy guy."

Physical Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in cramped or outdoor environments.
