Salary Range: $61,000 - $93,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are collaborating with manufacturing firms in Norton Shores that are seeking skilled Tool Makers. These organizations are dedicated to maintaining high standards and are looking for professionals who can contribute effectively. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and modify precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Operate and set up a variety of machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and engineering specifications.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair on existing tooling.
  • Conduct precise measurements using metrology equipment to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling-related production issues efficiently.
  • Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool construction.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Completion of a certified Tool Maker apprenticeship or 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in operating and setting up manual machining equipment (lathes, mills, surface grinders).
  • Ability to accurately interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated skill in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for tooling design, modification, and CNC machine programming.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam)
  • Experience with advanced machining processes (e.g., Wire EDM, 5-axis milling)
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Welding experience (TIG/MIG) for tool repair and modification
