Job Description

Job DescriptionDuration: 11 month contract with the possibility of extension depending on the organization's needs.
Work hours: 40 hrs/week with 4 hours OT/week

About the Organization
A leading U.S. national research facility dedicated to advancing science, engineering, and technology for the public good. The organization conducts cutting-edge research in areas such as energy, environment, computing, and materials science, fostering collaboration among world-class scientists and engineers. Its mission-driven culture emphasizes innovation, sustainability, and teamwork to address complex global challenges through interdisciplinary research and practical applications.

Position Summary
The Electronics Engineering Associate will provide hands-on technical support in the design, documentation, testing, procurement, and installation coordination of complex electrical systems. This is a mid- to senior-level position requiring prior practical experience—not an entry-level training role. Recent graduates may be considered only if they have direct, demonstrable experience with pulsed power or high-voltage systems.

Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Documentation and Schematic Development

  • Create, update, and maintain 2D AutoCAD electrical schematic drawings.
  • Apply redlines, track revisions, and maintain proper version control.
  • Produce clear, accurate, and compliant technical documentation.
  • Develop and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) for ongoing projects.

2. Installation Planning and Field Coordination

  • Support installation planning for electrical systems, including racks, cabling, grounding, and interfaces.
  • Collaborate with electricians, installers, fabricators, vendors, and other trades.
  • Ensure all field activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and fully documented.

3. Testing and Commissioning

  • Prepare and execute functional and system-level testing of pulsed power supplies and related equipment.
  • Develop and follow test procedures, perform bench testing, collect and analyze test data.
  • Support quality assurance and commissioning efforts under engineering supervision.

4. Project Coordination and Procurement Support

  • Track and manage procurement of electrical components and subsystems.
  • Coordinate deliveries, maintain procurement timelines, and resolve logistics issues.
  • Keep accurate records of orders, inventory counts, and lab readiness.

5. Lab and Workflow Organization

  • Maintain electronics lab organization, readiness, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Keep detailed records of print lists, procurement timelines, inventories, and other documentation.
  • Support engineers and technicians in preparing lab spaces for fabrication and testing.

6. Cross-Team Communication and Workflow Improvements

  • Act as a liaison between engineering, operations, trades, and project management teams.
  • Provide clear communication regarding technical status, risks, and resource needs.
  • Contribute to workflow improvements, documentation processes, and knowledge sharing across teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Design Proficiency: Skilled in 2D AutoCAD for electrical schematic development.
  • Hands-On Experience: Proven ability in bench testing, QA procedures, and system-level testing.
  • Field Installation Skills: Experience in repairing, installing, and validating electrical systems.
  • Technical Background: Knowledge of high-voltage or pulsed power systems strongly preferred.
  • Organizational Strength: Excellent attention to detail in managing documentation, BOMs, procurement, and lab records.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication for effective coordination and documentation.
  • Safety Readiness: Must meet background requirements to participate in Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) training.

Deliverables

  • Up-to-date AutoCAD drawings and schematic packages.
  • Procurement tracking logs, BOMs, and inventory records maintained accurately.
  • Comprehensive test plans, test data, and commissioning documentation.
  • Well-organized and compliant electronics lab environment supporting ongoing engineering work.
  • Regular technical updates and documentation aligned with project milestones.
