Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior MEP Project Manager to lead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering projects from design through construction and commissioning. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical engineering knowledge with proven project management skills to deliver complex building systems on time, on budget, and to specification. This role requires coordination across design teams, contractors, owners, and consultants while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple large-scale MEP projects simultaneously, overseeing planning, design review, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections; monitor performance and implement corrective actions to meet objectives.
- Serve as primary client and stakeholder contact for MEP-related scope; build strong client relationships and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, plumbing engineers, designers, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure alignment with project requirements and contract documents.
- Prepare, review, and manage subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and as-built documentation; ensure timely approvals and compliance.
- Implement and enforce quality assurance/quality control procedures and safety protocols; conduct site visits, inspections, and progress reviews.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; lead resolution of technical, contractual, and schedule issues.
- Use project controls tools (including Deltek) to track costs, schedule, and project documentation; produce regular status reports for senior leadership and clients.
- Oversee commissioning activities and handover processes, ensuring systems meet performance requirements and that operations/maintenance documentation and training are completed.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and project managers; promote best practices in MEP engineering, construction management, and collaboration.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline; Masters degree a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required or highly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive MEP engineering and construction experience with at least 5 years in a project management role on large commercial, institutional, or industrial projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in mechanical systems and MEP coordination, including HVAC, plumbing, power distribution, and controls.
- Proficiency with project management and financial tools; hands-on experience with Deltek (or similar ERP/project controls systems) strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, standards, commissioning processes, and construction contract administration.
- Proven leadership, communication, negotiation, and client-facing skills; ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive decisions.
- Experience with BIM coordination tools, scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera), and Microsoft Office suite.
- PMP certification preferred; familiarity with sustainability/energy modeling and LEED processes is a plus.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required and manage field-based teams effectively.
