Barr-Reeve Community Schools is seeking a skilled and student-centered Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher to support our construction and/or manufacturing pathway. This position includes leadership of student learning throughViking Enterprises, where students gain hands-on, real-world experience through production-based learning.
We are looking for an educator who can provide meaningful technical instruction while helping students develop workforce-ready skills in a collaborative, project-based environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
To plan and deliver rigorous, relevant career and technical education instruction; to facilitate student participation and mastery of technical skills; and to oversee student involvement in a production-based learning environment through Viking Enterprises, supporting real-world application and workforce readiness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Instructional Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with Indiana CTE standards in construction, manufacturing, or related fields
- Develop hands-on learning experiences that emphasize safety, technical skill development, and real-world application
- Utilize industry-relevant tools, equipment, and instructional materials
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Maintain a structured and engaging teaching-learning environment
Assessment and Student Progress
- Assess student learning through performance-based and traditional measures
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and families
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, certifications, and skill attainment
Classroom, Lab, and Student Supervision
- Maintain a safe learning environment and enforce all safety procedures and expectations
- Supervise students in classroom, lab/shop settings, and during project-based and production activities
- Maintain high expectations for student conduct and enforce school policies
Program and School Responsibilities
- Support and grow CTE programming in construction, manufacturing, or related pathways
- Oversee and facilitate student participation in Viking Enterprises, ensuring alignment between instruction and production goals
- Supervise students engaged in a production-based learning environment or student-run enterprise
- Coordinate project-based and work-based learning experiences connected to production or manufacturing processes
- Maintain and manage tools, equipment, and lab/shop spaces
- Assist with inventory, ordering, and budget planning in accordance with district procedures
- Build partnerships with local businesses, industry, and community organizations when possible
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend meetings called by the superintendent, principal, or designee
- Participate in professional development, including CTE and industry-related training
- Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, and administration to support student pathways
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and community partners
Additional Duties
- Maintain records as required by district policy and state guidelines
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent, principal, or designee
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Career and Technical Education, Industrial Technology, or related field OR relevant industry experience with eligibility for Indiana CTE licensure
- Valid Indiana Teaching License in CTE (Construction Trades, Manufacturing, or related area), or eligibility prior to employment
- Knowledge of industry standards, safety practices, and technical skills related to construction and/or manufacturing
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, industrial operations, or a related field preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
- Ability to work with students in a hands-on, project-based environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and movement in classroom and lab/shop environments
- Ability to lift, carry, and move tools, materials, and equipment (up to approximately 50 pounds)
- Ability to safely demonstrate and supervise the use of tools and machinery
- Exposure to moderate to high noise levels in shop environments
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in classrooms and lab/shop settings and may include production-based environments. The position involves exposure to tools, machinery, dust, and elevated noise levels. Strict adherence to safety procedures is required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check as required by Indiana law and compliance with all Board policies and negotiated agreements. This position follows the teacher contract and may include responsibilities beyond the regular school day.
