First Article Inspector | Kentwood, MI

Salary Range: $56,000 - $83,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive First Article Inspections (FAI) on newly manufactured parts, assemblies, and sub-assemblies.
Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Utilize precision measuring equipment such as CMM, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and optical comparators.
Generate detailed First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with AS9102 or customer-specific requirements.
Document all inspection results accurately, including identification and reporting of non-conforming materials or processes.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to investigate and resolve dimensional discrepancies or quality issues.
Verify manufacturing processes and tooling are capable of producing parts to specified requirements.

Recommended Qualifications

Proficiency in using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, CMM).
Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Demonstrated understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Proven experience performing First Article Inspections (FAI) in a manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with industry-standard FAI documentation requirements (e.g., AS9102, PPAP).

Bonus Qualifications

Experience with CMM programming (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso).
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
Experience with 3D scanning or other advanced optical metrology systems.
AS9100/ISO 9001 internal auditor training.
