Position Summary:
The school nurse is a qualified individual who meets the requirements to work in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Denver. The school nurse is hired by and directly accountable to the principal. The school nurse is expected to abide by the policies and procedures of the local school, the Archdiocese of Denver, and the Office of Catholic Schools. The school nurse cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education and helps build a Catholic culture in the school, ordered towards discipleship.
Essential Job Functions (Responsibilities):
· Responsible for the health and safety of 500 students (administer daily medications, provide first aid, make referrals to outside resources, attend weekly mass with students and provide medical care as needed during mass)
· Provide education to faculty regarding medication administration, emergency medications and CPR/First Aid training
· Perform vision and hearing screenings
· Implement and monitor care plans/records
· Report immunizations to the state and any communicable diseases/outbreaks to the health department
· Laison between parents/students, staff, and community
· Oversee medication delegation (which includes the storage of medications and the completion of the Archdiocesan forms and Allergy/Asthma/Diabetes/HA Care plans), ensure emergency binder (emergency numbers, “Student Alert-Active”/Student Medical Report” print off, class roster) and first aid supplies are in the backpack for all field trips
· Collaborate with middle school teacher prior to Outdoor Lab to ensure all emergency/medication forms are signed and completed and medications are scheduled/stocked in the proper environment (controlled substance are in double locked containers, antibiotics are stored in the cooler/refrigerator upon arrival, etc.)
· Stock medical supplies in the nurse’s office and order necessary equipment/supplies as needed
· Respond to parent/teacher emails and provide guidance on specific health conditions and injuries
· The school nurse will maintain records and data as instructed.
· Provide clerical support for the front office (answering calls, greeting visitors, completing attendance/responding to attendance emails, assisting with upcoming projects)

Requirements:
· Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043)
· Refrain from promotion or approval of, or the living out of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals.
· Effective listening and verbal communication skills.
· Must work cooperatively with school staff and administration.
· Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
· Knowledge of and willingness to implement safety and emergency procedures.
· Registered Nurse, RN, licensed to practice in the state of Colorado.
· Requires appropriate training, certification and/or credentialing as necessitated by school and student needs.
· Compliance with Safe Environment requirements.
· Required workdays are Mondays through Fridays.
· Requires lifting up to 40 pounds and carrying up to 40 pounds.
· Ability to execute appropriate safety and emergency procedures, including leading evacuations and providing basic first aid.
