Job Description
Electrical Engineer – Data Center Projects
Location: Northern Virginia
Type: Full-Time
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to work on cutting-edge AI Data Center projects. You will be responsible for the design, construction support, and commissioning of high-density, mission-critical power systems that enable next-generation AI infrastructure. This is a rare opportunity to work on some of the most advanced data centers in the world, where power reliability, redundancy, and efficiency are critical.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, analyze, and oversee high-voltage (HV), medium-voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems for AI data centers.
- Develop single-line diagrams, load calculations, and electrical layouts for server halls, substations, and mechanical rooms.
- Specify and design switchgear, transformers, PDUs, busways, UPS systems, and backup generators to support high-density AI workloads.
- Ensure redundancy and reliability of power systems (N+1, 2N, 2N+1 configurations).
- Support construction phase: review submittals, RFIs, inspect installations, and resolve field issues.
- Lead or support commissioning activities including IST, FAT/SAT, relay and protective device testing.
- Conduct arc flash, short-circuit, and load flow studies to ensure compliance with NFPA, NEC, and IEEE standards.
- Collaborate with MEP, mechanical, and IT teams to integrate high-density power and cooling systems, including liquid cooling for AI clusters.
- Coordinate with utilities and EPC partners to ensure seamless substation and site power integration.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on mission-critical power design best practices.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience designing, constructing, or commissioning mission-critical electrical systems, preferably in data centers or hyperscale facilities.
- Experience with HV, MV, LV systems, switchgear, transformers, PDUs, UPS, and generators.
- Familiarity with high-density AI workloads and power distribution requirements.
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70/70E, IEEE standards.
- Experience with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or similar electrical design software.
- Strong problem-solving and field support skills.
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical drawings, and schematics.
Preferred:
- NETA Certified or commissioning experience (Cx/CxA).
- Experience with liquid cooling systems and high-density rack power integration.
- Previous experience in hyperscale AI data center projects.
- Familiarity with utility interconnection and substation design.
What's in it for you
- Competitive salary and benefits.
- Professional growth in mission-critical power and AI infrastructure.
- 401(k) retirement plan with company match
