Legal Bookkeeper
Location: Midtown Manhattan (Fully In-Office)
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Full Charge Bookkeeper to join our dynamic team. This role involves managing comprehensive accounting functions, ensuring accuracy in financial records, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards.
Responsibilities
- The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, handling the accounting, reconciling accounts, and coordinating with outside CPAs and payroll providers to ensure precise financial data.
- Maintain daily bookkeeping using platforms such as QuickBooks.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and accounting reconciliations
- Manage client trust accounts in strict compliance with New York ethical rules
- Record settlements, disbursements, liens, and case-related expenses
- Track accounts payable and receivable
- Coordinate payroll processing with ADP (or similar provider)
- Prepare monthly financial reports for firm management
- Support year-end close and liaise with the firm’s CPA
- Maintain organized financial records and audit-ready documentation
- Handle sensitive financial information with the utmost confidentiality
Skills
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and other financial management tools.
- Expertise in double-entry bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliation, and bank reconciliation procedures.
- Ability to perform detailed account analysis and balance sheet reconciliation with precision.
- Familiarity with payroll processing systems and tax regulations related to payroll management.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a law firm or professional-services environment
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks (Online or Desktop)
