Technical Trainer (Contract)
Our Client is seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Technical Training Instructor to become a vital member of our dynamic BaseOPS technical training team. This role demands an individual with expertise in ICE / Electric Vehicles (EVs) and their intricate electrical systems. The ideal candidate will be adept at delivering top-tier technical training to a diverse audience, including skilled technicians, maintenance personnel, and other internal stakeholders across various teams and locations. The Technical Trainer will be actively engaged in the design, development, and execution of technical and non-technical training for the Base Operations team. This will include but is not limited to new hire orientation, high voltage interaction and safety, CAN diagnosis, component level repairs, special tooling, and general autonomous and electric vehicle knowledge.
You will help in communicating policies, procedures, and practices to the team to ensure everyone is aware of the expectations and the real-time changes. Additionally, you will work with cross-functional teams to align on training management systems and ensure our content is standardized with other teams across the company.
Responsibilities:
- Research, analyze and identify specific training needs to support team objectives
- Select appropriate delivery methodology, develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and student handouts
- Develop and administer an ongoing training program that includes all aspects of employee growth from onboarding and orientation through continued growth in both technical and managerial tracks
- Work closely with internal & external teams to define requirements for all training types
- Ensure all training sessions strictly comply with safety standards, local regulations, and environmental guidelines, with a particular focus on high-voltage (HV) systems, batteries, and electric propulsion systems.
- Schedule & conduct both classroom and on-the-job instruction and track and report completion to metrics
- Develop evaluations that assess the effectiveness of training and implement mechanisms for feedback to continuously improve the training program based on technician feedback, performance data, and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
- ASE Certifications Preferred
- Posses or willing to posses AC609 Certification
Skills & Experience:
- 2-5 Years of Automotive/AV experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical fundamental systems, schematics, and service best practices.
- Extensive knowledge of electric vehicle systems, including DC and AC electrical systems, battery management systems, inverters, charging systems, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to individuals with varying levels of technical knowledge, including those in Engineering, Quality, Reliability, FSE, Manufacturing, Service OPS, and more.
- Foundational instructional design experience, as this position requires the development of training materials, Quick Reference Guides, and presentations.
- Ability to interact professionally with a broad spectrum of teams, from mechanics to high-level management, ensuring a positive training experience.
- Commitment to staying current with industry trends, certifications, codes, and best practices to ensure content remains relevant and compliant.
- Maintain accurate records of training completion, evaluations, and participant feedback.
- Proficiency with Google Suite
- Familiarity with LMS platforms, JIRA, SAP, DMS, etc.
Working Conditions:
- Primary work location: San Francisco / Foster City (on-site)
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, as required for hands-on training.
- Comfortable working in various environmental conditions (e.g., outdoor training, shop, warehouse environments, noisy settings).
- Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time across the United States. Travel may involve a combination of air and ground transportation, including overnight stays.
