Position Summary
The Clinical Technical Supervisor is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory’s daily operations to ensure accurate, reliable, and timely patient test results in accordance with COLA, CLIA, and all applicable federal and state regulations. This position provides direct supervision of testing personnel, ensures compliance with quality assurance and quality control policies, and supports the laboratory’s mission to deliver high-quality, patient-centered diagnostic services. The supervisor will also perform occasional bench work as needed or when short-staffed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance
· Provide day-to-day technical supervision of all laboratory testing in compliance with COLA and CLIA requirements.
· Ensure that testing systems are properly functioning and providing accurate and timely results.
· Oversee verification, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments and ensure documentation is complete and compliant.
· Review, sign, and approve quality control (QC) and proficiency testing (PT) results, ensuring corrective actions are taken and documented when results deviate from established standards.
· Maintain and update the laboratory’s Quality Management Plan and monitor quality indicators.
· Evaluate and verify new test methods, procedures, and instrumentation prior to implementation.
· Maintains current knowledge and training on equipment and procedures.
· Consistently displays a positive attitude and a personal commitment to excellence.
Personnel Supervision & Competency
· Directly supervise laboratory technologists, technicians, medical laboratory assistants, and phlebotomists performing moderate and high complexity testing.
· Ensure staff maintain required licensure and certifications in accordance with Florida and federal regulations.
· Conduct employee training, annual competency assessments, and continuing education to maintain technical proficiency.
· Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and performance feedback to all laboratory personnel.
Regulatory Compliance
· Ensure the laboratory remains in full compliance with COLA, CLIA, OSHA, and applicable state and federal regulations.
· Prepare for and participate in regulatory inspections, internal audits, and proficiency testing events.
· Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all laboratory procedures, QC logs, and maintenance records.
· Review and revise standard operating procedures SOPs to reflect current practices and regulations.
Operational Management
· Oversee daily workflow to maintain optimal turnaround times and testing efficiency.
· Assist in the selection, evaluation, and validation of new instruments, reagents, and supplies.
· Monitor inventory levels, order laboratory supplies, and manage cost-effective utilization of materials.
Safety & Compliance
· Promote and enforce laboratory safety protocols, including exposure control plans and infection control policies.
· Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of biohazardous materials in compliance with OSHA standards.
· Lead investigations into incidents, errors, or near-miss events and implement corrective/preventive actions.

Schedule & Compensation
· Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
· On-Call Rotation: Participates in Saturday and holiday coverage rotation as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field required.
· Maintenance of certification is required through a professional Medical Technology organization (AMT, ASCP).
· Current Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor license in relevant specialties (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology) or must able to obtain within 3 months from hire.
· Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory performing moderate or high-complexity testing.
· Previous phlebotomy, supervisory or lead technologist experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· In-depth understanding of CLIA and COLA regulations.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
· Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS), quality management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive hand motions for extended periods.
· Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
· Visual acuity sufficient to perform microscopic and analytical procedures.
