Automation Engineer | Norton Shores, MI

Salary Range: $77,000 - $122,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and robotics.
Program and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and robotic systems for manufacturing processes.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex issues with automated equipment and control systems to minimize downtime.
Optimize existing automation processes to enhance efficiency, productivity, quality, and reduce operational costs.
Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including electrical schematics, control narratives, and operating procedures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, maintenance, IT) to integrate new automation solutions and improve existing ones.
Ensure all automation solutions comply with relevant safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies.

Recommended Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
3+ years of hands-on experience with PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA development in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet) and data acquisition systems.
Demonstrated ability to design, implement, troubleshoot, and optimize complex automation systems.
Strong understanding of robotics, vision systems, and industrial safety standards.

Bonus Qualifications

Experience with Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platforms and data analytics for manufacturing optimization.
Proficiency in advanced robotics programming and vision system integration.
Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integration.
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for Operational Technology (OT) environments.
