Job DescriptionPosition Summary
The Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing patient referrals with accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while navigating complex systems and insurance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, verify, and process referrals and diagnostic orders.
- Track referral status and outcomes to ensure continuity of care.
- Obtain insurance authorizations and verify coverage requirements.
- Maintain accurate patient records and registration data.
- Communicate with patients, providers, and insurance companies.
- Coordinate specialty and diagnostic appointments.
- Provide patients with referral details and assist in resolving barriers to care.
- Serve as a system navigator and advocate for patients.
- Generate and transmit care summaries to specialists.
- Establish and maintain relationships with service providers.
- Participate in team meetings and support high reliability standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant training/certification preferred.
- 2+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Records (NextGen preferred).
- Knowledge of insurance plans (HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal) and medical billing terminology.
- Ability to work flexible hours and manage delegated tasks.
- Commitment to serving diverse and underserved populations.
- Adherence to infection control and HIPAA standards.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.90 - $24.90/hr.
