Job DescriptionPosition Summary

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing patient referrals with accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while navigating complex systems and insurance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, verify, and process referrals and diagnostic orders.
  • Track referral status and outcomes to ensure continuity of care.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations and verify coverage requirements.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and registration data.
  • Communicate with patients, providers, and insurance companies.
  • Coordinate specialty and diagnostic appointments.
  • Provide patients with referral details and assist in resolving barriers to care.
  • Serve as a system navigator and advocate for patients.
  • Generate and transmit care summaries to specialists.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with service providers.
  • Participate in team meetings and support high reliability standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant training/certification preferred.
  • 2+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Records (NextGen preferred).
  • Knowledge of insurance plans (HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal) and medical billing terminology.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and manage delegated tasks.
  • Commitment to serving diverse and underserved populations.
  • Adherence to infection control and HIPAA standards.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.90 - $24.90/hr.
