Job Title: Traveling Construction Laborer / Technician
Job Description
This traveling construction laborer / technician role supports a wide range of installation and construction activities, including minor concrete work, wood post and I-beam foundations, steel erection, and general construction tasks. You will work as part of a field crew that travels frequently to job sites, typically Monday through Friday, contributing to safe and efficient project completion while gaining hands-on experience across multiple aspects of construction.
Responsibilities
- Assist with installation work, including minor concrete pours, wood posts, and I-beam foundations.
- Support steel erection and general construction tasks as directed by the site lead or foreperson.
- Perform general labor duties such as site preparation, material handling, and jobsite cleanup.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for construction, assembly, and installation tasks.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and experienced crew members to complete tasks accurately and on time.
- Work as part of a team to assemble and install structural components, including steel and wood structures.
- Assist with basic maintenance and repairs of tools, equipment, and temporary jobsite structures as needed.
- Travel with the crew to job sites in company vehicles, often staying on-site for up to a week at a time.
- Maintain reliable attendance and arrive on time for scheduled shifts and travel departures.
- Adhere to all jobsite safety procedures and guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
- Lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing between 15 and 100 pounds throughout the workday.
- Stand, walk, kneel, crawl, sit, and drive for extended periods as required by daily tasks.
- Help ensure the work area remains organized, safe, and free from unnecessary hazards.
- Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and resolve issues on site.
Essential Skills
- Ability to stand and walk for 8–10 hours per day.
- Ability to sit, drive, and kneel or crawl for up to 2 hours during a 10-hour shift.
- Ability to lift and carry 15–100 pounds safely and repeatedly.
- Strong work ethic with consistent, reliable attendance.
- Positive attitude with a willingness and eagerness to learn new skills.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and complete tasks as directed.
- Ability to work well on a team and contribute to a cooperative crew environment.
- Comfort working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat and cold.
- Comfort with extensive travel, including being on the road 40–50 weeks per year.
- Valid driver’s license, as required for operating or riding in company vehicles.
- Basic proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in construction environments.
- General labor and construction work experience or aptitude for physical, hands-on work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous construction experience in field, shop, or farm settings.
- Experience operating equipment such as scissor lifts, forklifts, skid steers, or backhoes.
- Basic knowledge of construction tools, methods, and jobsite safety practices.
- Experience with concrete work, including forming, pouring, and finishing.
- Experience installing steel or wood structures, such as posts, beams, or frames.
- Familiarity with OSHA 10 safety principles or possession of an OSHA 10 certification.
- Experience in general labor, farm work, or other physically demanding roles that involve tools and machinery.

Work Environment
This role is field-based and highly travel-focused, with crews traveling approximately 40–50 weeks per year to various job sites. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., averaging about 50 hours per week and up to 60 hours during busy periods. Work takes place around moving machinery and in dusty conditions, with moderate loud noise levels and occasional exposure to toxic chemicals, following safety protocols. You will work outdoors in both hot and cold weather, often on active construction sites involving concrete, steel erection, and general building activities. Travel is conducted in company vehicles, one-way drive time from the shop is paid, and overnight stays include provided lodging and per diem. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to safely perform duties in this construction environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Princeville, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
