Directional Bore Operator/ Locator
Summary/Objective
This position performs tasks required for the operation of directional drill including set-up and bore path completion for the construction/upgrade of communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, etc.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Load and unload directional bore equipment in a manner that is secure and damage free

Transport associated tools, materials and/or equipment in a safe manner

Complete a daily inspection on bore equipment prior to commencing work

Prepare the drill fluid based on site conditions prior to boring commencing

In conjunction with bore crew, locate/operate the directional drill using the selected bore heads and back reamers to place cables
-
Operate horizontal directional drill equipment in accordance with company and industry standards
-
Responsible for locating cables and verification in accordance with blueprints
-
Identifies utilities in the construction area and bore path
-
Connect/stub-up conduit and wire
-
Dig pits, trenches or potholes as required including windows when crossing utilities
-
Restores and/or landscapes disturbed areas of the jobsite

Accurately complete all required company documentation for each assignment according to established company standards and procedures (i.e. timesheet, vehicle log, expense report)

Adhere to all established company safety policies and perform work in a safe manner.

Perform other duties and tasks as assigned in order to help team complete a project
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to read and interpret engineering/construction prints, plans and specifications

Knowledge of utility depths and placements

Possess general knowledge of construction practices

Ability to work in various environments/settings with moderate to loud noise levels

Ability to work in trenches, manholes and tunnels

Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks

Ability to work efficiently, independently and collaboratively within a team environment Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

Ability to move materials/equipment weighing up to 80 pounds

Ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment with constant interruptions

Ability to work efficiently, independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Able to work 10+ hours in a day when necessary

Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions
Travel

Weekly travel is required for this position. Company will pay hotel expenses (shared room) and per diem
Preferred Education and Experience
-
One year of experience operating a directional borer preferably in the telecommunications field
-
Previous rock boring experience
-
Class A CDL
