Cytotechnologist Position Summary:

Pathologists' Medical Laboratory, PA is seeking an experienced Cytotechnologist to join our team of dedicated professionals. In this role, you will perform cytological evaluations of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, ensuring accurate and high-quality results for patient care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of cytological procedures, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to fluctuations in workload while maintaining turnaround times.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct cytological evaluations of specimens, adhering to established PML policies and procedures, and meeting daily workload requirements based on experience level.
  • Prepare final diagnoses for negative/normal gynecological specimens, signing and dating manual or electronic worksheets, and prepare provisional diagnoses for other cases for review.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule to accommodate fluctuations in workload and maintain turnaround times.
  • Proactively consult with coworkers, supervisors, and pathologists on slide evaluations.
  • Actively participate in monitoring the Quality Control (QC) program, collaborating with supervisors and pathologists to ensure high-quality results.
  • Review accession documentation for accuracy and consistency.
  • Operate laboratory equipment effectively, performing necessary maintenance according to established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and timely individual workload records, adhering to PML and regulatory agency requirements.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and personnel information at all times.

Education:

  • Minimum of a graduate of an accredited school of cytology and ASCP registered or eligible.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of two years of cytology experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated current competencies applicable to the job position.
  • Strong knowledge of cytological procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality and accuracy in a high-volume laboratory setting.
  • Ability to operate various instruments, follow written instructions, and use computers to perform procedures according to the Cytology Procedure Manual.
  • Good eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity, near-visual acuity, intact color vision, and mobility.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds of light equipment.
  • Flexibility to cover work hours as needed.

Working Conditions:

  • Laboratory setting with periods of high stress due to continuous changes in workload.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, including xylene and formalin.
