About the Role Estimator

As an Estimator at Valor Contracting, you will provide accurate construction cost data to the Valor team and clients, enabling informed project decisions. Responsibilities include delivering estimates, from conceptual to detailed scope analyses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

Position Logistics

  • Work Environment: On-Site
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday | 7 am - 5 pm
  • Work Type: Full Time (40 hours/week)

Position Responsibilities:

  • Setting forms including stakes, edge forms, wall forms
  • Develop accurate cost estimates based on project details, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project goals.
  • Prepare comprehensive estimates for all project phases, from conceptual to final bid, incorporating evolving design specifications.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment, ensuring precise and current calculations.
  • Research market trends and supplier data to maintain competitive unit pricing for realistic estimates.
  • Consult with subcontractors and suppliers to gather accurate material and labor cost information.
  • Review project drawings and specifications thoroughly to ensure estimates reflect all scope requirements.
  • Lead preconstruction estimating efforts, coordinating with project teams to establish a solid cost foundation.
  • Collaborate with Owners, Architects, and stakeholders to align scope, budget, and design, resolving discrepancies proactively.
  • Develop and manage detailed bid scope packages to ensure competitive and complete subcontractor bids.
  • Maintain a Value Engineering Log, documenting cost-saving alternatives to maximize project value.
  • Prepare critical documentation, including Schedule of Values and GMP agreements, with clarity and precision.
  • Analyze estimated versus actual costs to identify variances and improve future estimating accuracy.
  • Support Project Managers with pricing for change orders and cost projections to mitigate overruns.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, architects, and subcontractors to foster trust and collaboration.
  • Evaluate and implement estimating software to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and team collaboration.
  • Create preliminary project schedules to align cost estimates with project timelines and resource planning

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum five years' related experience in an Estimator or Project Management position
  • Familiarity with industry-leading tools like Viewpoint, Procore, Bluebeam, OST, MS Project, Primavera or similar estimating or scheduling software is a plus.
