They take the time to walk patients through the ordering process, answer questions, and make sure everyone feels comfortable, confident, and well cared for along the way. Not to mention the main reason why we're here - To help improve our patients' quality of life, through their sight.
Our Opticians play a key role in creating a great patient experience. They help patients choose frames and lens options that fit their lifestyle—guided by the doctor’s recommendations and clinical findings. A strong understanding of lens options and treatments, prescription basics, lensometry, and taking accurate measurements using modern technology is a big plus.
What You'll Be Doing:

Helping patients see clearly by verifying, fitting, and dispensing eyeglasses and contact lenses
- Provide contact lens instruction, including insertion, removal, and care education.

Learning and applying optical know-how, including measuring, adjusting, and fine-tuning eyewear using the right tools for the job

Being the friendly first hello—welcoming patients in person and over the phone

Handling payments accurately and confidently (no awkward moments—we’ve got systems for that)

Using everyday office tech like a pro: computers, phones, printers, scanners, and more

Keeping patient charts and records organized, accurate, and up to date

Pitching in to keep the office looking clean, professional, and inviting (team effort!)

Completing HIPAA training to ensure patient privacy is always protected (we’ll train you)

Managing orders and keeping inventory organized so nothing falls through the cracks

Navigating insurance claims and clearly explaining coverage so patients know what to expect

Preparing accurate eyewear estimates—no surprises at checkout
When you would be working:
- Monday to Friday (Mon & Tues 9 am-5 pm, Wed & Thurs 9 am-6 pm, and Fridays 9 am-2 pm)
- No nights
- No weekends
- No Nationally Recognized Holidays
Qualifications:
- Some retail experience is great! If you happen to have experience in OPTICAL retail...even better!
- ABO certification preferred- but not required (if interested, training & materials will be provided to you on the expectation of obtaining this certification within 2 years of employment date. Pay raise to follow successful certificate acquisition.)

Byron Eye Care is a local private practice that has been operating in Byron, MN for 10 years. Dr. Wendy Kennedy has built this optometry practice from the ground up during her 20 years of practicing! She and her staff have a strong focus on patient care and treating each person as just that...human! We see our patients as people- not numbers. Dr. Kennedy recently added a second doctor to our practice as well (Dr. Carly Van Keulen) So we are GROWING!
