Position Overview

This Sign Language Interpreter role involves providing prehensive interpreting services to deaf and hard of hearing students with diverse munication needs through our established educational support framework. You'll work with a manageable caseload of 46-56 students spanning kindergarten through 12th grade, dedicating 36-37.5 hours weekly to interpreting, preparation, and collaborative planning activities.

Your services will enpass facilitating accurate munication between deaf and hard of hearing students and the hearing educational munity, supporting full participation in academic and social activities, and advocating for optimal munication access conditions. The role requires expertise in American Sign Language, English, and educational interpreting practices to ensure students receive prehensive linguistic support.

Professional Responsibilities

Core duties include providing simultaneous and consecutive interpreting services during classroom instruction, facilitating munication during student assessments and special education meetings, and supporting participation in all school activities including field trips, assemblies, and extracurricular programs. You'll collaborate with teachers and educational teams to prepare content-specific vocabulary, ensure appropriate visual access conditions, and maintain professional interpreter role boundaries while advocating for student munication needs.

Your role extends to interpreting during parent conferences and IEP meetings, maintaining confidentiality regarding all educational information, participating in continuing education to enhance interpreting petency, and coordinating with deaf and hard of hearing education specialists to support prehensive student services. You'll also document interpreting services provided, participate in team meetings regarding student progress, and contribute to creating inclusive educational environments through effective munication facilitation.

Certification and Qualifications

Candidates must possess a minimum 3.5 EIPA score and have pleted 2 years of interpreting experience in school settings. Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language and English is mandatory, with proven petency in educational interpreting practices, professional ethics, and understanding of educational processes.

Essential qualifications include knowledge of deaf culture and educational approaches for deaf and hard of hearing students, ability to interpret across various academic subjects and age groups, understanding of special education law and procedures, and strong collaboration skills for working with diverse educational teams. Flexibility in scheduling and fort with various interpreting environments including virtual platforms when needed are crucial for effective service delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

We strongly prefer candidates with 4.0 EIPA scores, Written EIPA certification, and RID/NIC certification with written test pletion. Additional preferences include experience interpreting for multiple munication modalities, familiarity with assistive technology used by deaf and hard of hearing students, and background in inclusive education practices.
