Position Details

Schedule: Full-time schedule determined in coordination with the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director based on clinic needs.

Reports to: President / Chief Medical Officer / Medical Director / Supervising Physician

Compensation: Salaried Employee; Commensurate with experience

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works collaboratively with a supervising physician to assess, diagnose, and treat clients with current or potential psychiatric-mental health conditions. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive physical and psychosocial evaluations, prescribing medications, and providing both scheduled and emergency psychiatric services. The NP develops and manages individualized treatment plans, ensuring effective and appropriate care with ongoing evaluation and supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric care in outpatient and partial hospital program settings to patients experiencing changes in mental status, or chronic/urgent psychiatric and medical conditions.
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, medication reviews, health histories, physical exams, and risk assessments.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests; manage consultations and appointments on both a scheduled and emergent basis.
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with clinic policies, approved formularies, and relevant state regulations.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with the medical team under clinical privileges approved by the clinic’s Medical Executive Board.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care.
  • Consult with supervising physicians for cases beyond the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice.
  • Accurately document patient encounters and care plans in the electronic medical record in compliance with clinic policy.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate patient and family education related to disease prevention and health promotion.
  • Foster effective communication and coordination with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Provide consultation and support to clinic nursing and medical staff to enhance quality of care and staff performance.
  • Maintain all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education to remain in good professional standing.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clinical and administrative staff.
  • Demonstrate and maintain stable, professional, and appropriate boundaries with clients at all times.
  • Appropriately manage and resolve crisis situations all while maintaining professionalism and ensuring client safety.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude toward learning and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to accept constructive feedback, implement guidance, and show a willingness to grow and improve professionally.
  • Stay current with professional training requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations.

Working Conditions

  • Staff are expected to maintain a professional appearance and be prepared for active engagement with consumers.
  • This role requires extended periods of remaining in a stationary position during HIPAA-compliant telehealth and in-person sessions and requires the ability to perform physical activities such as bending and reaching.   • The position involves prolonged active listening and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in using computers, phones, and office equipment for documentation and telehealth purposes is necessary. This includes but is not limited to Office 365 and Electronic Medical Record systems.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
  • Active current board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the State of Michigan and continued satisfactory standings with the appropriate board and insurance entities required. Additional Board Certification in other specialties may be considered with relevant psychiatric experience and/or postgraduate coursework.
  • Current DEA Registration Certificate required.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience in psychiatric care required.
