Summary: The Residential Therapist provides therapy services to assist youth in transitioning from a residential level of service back to a less restrictive environment. This is achieved through the provision of intensive individual, group, and/or family therapy. Residential Therapist’s provide behavioral assessments and clinical counseling services within a residential placement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides therapy to individuals, families and groups.
- Completes a mental health assessment and develops appropriate goals and treatment plans for each client as required.
- Completes documentation required by internal and external funding sources in accordance with agency and legal standards.
- Maintains records and monitor client payments/billings per agency policy. Works in conjunction with clerical staff to update and coordinate client scheduling and payments.
- Maintains a clinical schedule that provides the option for each client on caseload to receive a minimum of one hour of individual therapy and one hour of group therapy every week. Therapists shall also provide additional openings in their clinical schedule to allow for clients to be rescheduled to another time during the week in the event of a crisis or scheduling conflicts.
- Is available to provide therapy services in accordance with the scheduling needs of their clients; to include evening appointments and/or weekend appointments. A minimum of one night per week is required.
- Participants in rotating on-call schedule to provide clinical oversight of residents within facility.
- Complete all paperwork required by insurance, State Transition Protocol Requirements, and the policies and procedures of the BHSP.
- Collaborate with all staff within residential facilities regarding the disposition of individual residents.
- Provide clinical recommendations to clinical supervisor and BHSP director regarding and issues/concerns/needs of residents.
- Promotes good public relations within the community; sustains good working relationships with interrelated agencies to facilitate referrals and cooperation on individual cases.
- Attends appropriate continuing education workshops and seminars to update techniques and maintains necessary levels of program specific knowledge and enhance counseling skills.
- Attends and participates in weekly clinical supervision with their licensure supervisor.
- Ensures that all documentation is reviewed and approved by their clinical supervisor.
- Implements clinical feedback provided in relation to work with clients.
- Consults with clinical supervisor related to all legal, ethical, and client concerns.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum requirements include a MSW or a Master’s degree in a related counseling program. Must have demonstrated experience and ability to work with children. Previous experience working within a residential treatment environment preferred.
LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Active LPC or LSW in Illinois. Pursuit of attaining Illinois clinical licensure required. Must be able to qualify as a QMHP per Illinois Admin Code 132.25.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write case notes that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Strong computer proficiencies are essential; must possess strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit.
Required to drive agency vehicles and transport clients. Should be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to complete TCI Training. On an as need basis, should be able to assist in manual restraint of clients and hands on interventions related to assisting in securing a child in a seclusion room.
