Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse
Position Type: Contract
Duration: 13 weeks
Work Location: Metropolis, IL 62960
Shift Details: nights, 7p-7a, 2 nights a week every other weekend
EMR Used: Meditech
Compensation Details:
- Gross Hourly Pay Rate: $65/hr (Stipend available for 50 miles away candidates)
- OT Rate: $100/hr (Starts after 40 hours)
- Call Back Rate: $100/hr
- Holiday Rate: $100/hr
- Assignment Completion Bonus: $500

Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Complete comprehensive nursing assessment on each patient under care and document appropriately.
- Administer medications or delegate medication administration to LPN
- Perform or delegate nursing interventions and provide for safe and effective nursing care.
- Advocate for patients and evaluate response to intervention and effectiveness of plan of care.
- Provide health education to patients and families/caregivers and administer blood products
- Supervise LPNs and ER Techs to assure competent patient care provided.
- Supervise ER Technicians
- Provide care for trauma patients of all ages
- Serve as house supervisor when necessary including weekends, holidays, and night shift
- Be familiar with EMS system
- Communicate using 2 way radio with 911, ambulance service and First Responders
- Assess acuity level of patient presenting for ER and prioritize who to be seen first, second etc.
- Periodically reassess patients for condition changes until seen in ER
- Perform call-back of patients seen in ER to check on condition following treatment per policy.
- Pass competency and proficiency testing as required by department or hospital
- Keep current with professional license, certifications and literature review
Additional Duties, Tasks, Responsibilities and Expectations:
1. Comply with all hospital policies and procedures as applicable for position including employee handbook, department and administrative policies and procedures, goals and objectives for self, department and performance improvement, safety compliance program, HIPAA and confidentiality, accreditation, and survey standards and infection control.
2. Provide exceptional customer service to all external (patients, families, etc.) and internal (co-workers, other departments, physicians, etc.) customers.
3. Participate in staff meetings and serve on hospital committees/teams as appropriate.
4. Perform work in effective, organized, accountable and competent manner including following oral and written instructions.
5. Be respectful, courteous and caring in all interactions with others.
6. Demonstrate initiative and ownership in performance of duties and be self-starter.
7. Pass competency and proficiency testing as required by department or hospital including computer based testing.
8. Adapt to changing work assignments and comfortable serving diverse community
9. Promote hospital services in service delivery area.
10. Function well under stressful conditions involving other departments, workload, etc.
11. Keep knowledge and skills current via education activities, in-services and other training.
12. Report to next shift or manager any problems or areas of concern to correct.
13. Perform related duties as needed including assisting others with their work.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of accredited or approved program of nursing with current Illinois RN license (or temporary work permit.
- CPR certification.
- ER RN requires ACLS, PALs.
- TNS and TNCC preferred
Experience: Clinical experience preferred
