Registered Nurse (RN) – Critical Illness Recovery – Nights – Contract
Location: Select Specialty Hospital – Regency Hospital of Macon, GA
Contract Length: 13 Weeks | Accepts Local RNs
About the Facility:
Select Specialty Hospital – Regency Hospital of Macon is a 60-bed, free-standing critical illness recovery hospital. The hospital is divided into two dedicated floors:

High Observation Unit (ICU/PCU): 2–4 patient assignments.

Medical/Surgical Floor: 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio (maximum 1:6). Census typically increases between January–March.

Assignments are based on acuity, not location. Nurses are assigned by skillset and will not float between floors.
Patient Population
-
Unstable cardiac status & telemetry monitoring
-
Infectious disease & medically complex/multi-system cases
-
Neurological conditions, brain injury, prolonged surgical recovery
-
Pulmonary patients: ventilator weaning, trach/endotracheal tubes
-
Renal disorders, wound care, uncontrolled diabetes
Key Responsibilities & Equipment
-
Ventilator & Trach Care: Must be highly skilled in managing vents, suctioning, and trach care.

Wound Vac Management: Dressing changes handled by wound care team.

Central Line: RNs provide management but do not draw blood or perform dressing changes (house supervisor manages).

Other devices: NG/OG tubes (management only), Foley care (not insertions), B Braun/Baxter IV infusion pumps, Kangaroo feeding pumps.

Support Procedures: Bedside hemodialysis, bronchoscopy, wound debridement.

Systems: EPIC charting, Rover, SpectraLinx call system.
Experience Required
-
Diverse background (Critical Care, PCU, Med/Surg)

Ventilator & trach experience required

Telemetry monitoring experience
-
Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills

Compassionate, reliable, and adaptable
Ratios & Support Staff

Ratios: 4–6 PCU patients, acuity-based assignments

Support: CNAs, RTs, Charge RN, House Supervisor, Unit Manager, PT/OT/Speech, Case Managers, Dieticians

House Supervisor: Available for escalation of care, not assigned to patient load

Challenging Environment: Acuity can be close to ICU level with higher ratios. Line/tube safety is emphasized.

Orientation: Education modules pre-assignment, on-site orientation shift.

Scheduling: Flexible but not guaranteed; OT may be available.

Licensure: Compact or GA RN license required.
