Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership and design expertise for HVAC and plumbing systems across multi-family housing, commercial, and local government projects. This role serves as a senior resource within the Mechanical team, leading projects, mentoring engineers and designers, and representing the Mechanical discipline in client interactions. The position is based in the firm’s Washington, DC office and supports both local and national project teams.


Job Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level mechanical engineering and design leadership for HVAC and plumbing systems
  • Mentor and guide mechanical engineers and designers
  • Develop and manage project work plans and schedules
  • Lead system selection, basis of design development, and ensure quality of work products
  • Coordinate mechanical and plumbing design with other disciplines and Project Managers
  • Represent the Mechanical discipline in client meetings and presentations
  • Attend and actively participate in project team meetings
  • Provide construction phase support including submittal reviews and RFI responses
  • Maintain and enhance mechanical and plumbing design standards
  • Support quality control efforts in collaboration with senior engineering leadership
  • Act as a technical resource for HVAC and plumbing design across multiple projects
  • Collaborate openly and professionally to resolve design challenges


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of mechanical and plumbing design experience
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using Trane Trace load calculation software
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present information to clients and stakeholders


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading projects and mentoring engineering staff
  • Background supporting multi-family housing, commercial, and government projects
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary design firm environment
