Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) PCU/Stepdown Unit | Alliance, OH | Contract Opportunity
A challenging role is available for a skilled Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown patient care. This contract position involves delivering high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, surgical, and respiratory conditions in a 26-bed setting. Dysrhythmia exam certification is required for eligibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate treatment effectiveness
- Administer medications safely, including Cardizem titration, heparin, Amiodarone drips, and Tikosyn loading
- Manage post-operative care including wound vacs, post-op drains, and handle multi-system organ failure patients
- Provide patient safety advocacy and participate actively in quality improvement initiatives
- Coordinate care activities, communicate with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families to ensure timely and compassionate care delivery
- Utilize clinical judgment for rapid response to changing patient conditions in a critical care environment
- Function as charge nurse during day shifts without patient assignments; handle full assignments on night shifts with support from PCAs
- Employ the AACN Synergy Model to promote physiological and psychosocial stability
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current RN license in the state of practice or documented compact eligibility
- BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certification mandatory; CCRN and PCCN preferred
- Minimum 1 year registered nursing experience; at least 6 months in acute care preferred
- Dysrhythmia exam required (study guide provided)
- Experience with critical care processes and Epic EHR advantageous
- Strong critical thinking, communication skills, and cultural competence
