About the Role
28Freight is a nearly 100-year--old regional freight and logistics provider headquartered in Wilmington, MA. Our Winwars Ayer warehouse is a growing operation supporting time-sensitive freight, life science logistics, and specialty cargo handling across a diverse portfolio of clients.
We are looking for a dependable, safety-minded Warehouseman & Material Handler to join our Ayer team. In this role, you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient receipt, storage, movement, and preparation of freight and materials within our facility. You will work across multiple client accounts simultaneously and will be expected to represent 28Freight professionally on client-facing operations calls communicating updates, resolving exceptions, and maintaining the high service standards our customers depend on.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and process inbound freight; verify counts and condition against shipping documents
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment
- Pick, pack, stage, and load outbound shipments accurately and on schedule
- Manage daily tasks across multiple client accounts simultaneously, maintaining accuracy and meeting SLAs for each
- Participate in client-facing operations calls, providing professional status updates, flagging exceptions, and supporting issue resolution
- Maintain organized, clean, and safe warehouse environment in compliance with OSHA and company standards
- Perform inventory cycle counts and assist with physical inventory audits
- Label, scan, and document freight using warehouse and TMS systems
- Communicate exceptions, damages, or discrepancies to supervisors and clients promptly
- Support special handling requirements for sensitive cargo, including life science and medical device shipments
- Assist with warehousing and fulfillment projects as assigned by operations management
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- 3+ years of warehouse, material handling, or freight operations experience
- Ability to safely lift up to 70 lbs. and perform physical tasks throughout a full shift
- Basic computer proficiency; comfortable using email, spreadsheets, and warehouse/TMS software
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented work ethic
Preferred:
- Valid forklift certification (sit-down counterbalance and/or reach truck preferred)
- Experience with TMS or WMS platforms
- Familiarity with LTL freight processes and BOL documentation
- Experience handling temperature-sensitive, fragile, or regulated freight (life science, pharma, medical device)
- OSHA 10 or equivalent safety certification
Work Environment
- Location: 11 Westford Road, Ayer, MA 01432
- Schedule: Full-time; hours aligned with warehouse operations (MondayFriday with occasional overtime)
- Environment: Warehouse setting with varying temperatures; PPE provided
- Physical requirements: Standing, walking, lifting, and operating equipment for the duration of shift
