Job Title: CNC Machinist and Programmer

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up, programming, and operating both manual and CNC machinery to produce high-quality parts for custom filling equipment. You will work with lathes, mills, drill presses, and other shop equipment, using CAM software to create and edit CNC programs while ensuring safe, efficient, and precise production. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication in a collaborative, clean, and organized manufacturing environment.

Shift: 7am-3:30pm

Pay: 29-42/hr

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and run parts from start to finish on both manual and CNC machines.
  • Perform frequent and complex CNC mill and lathe setups and operations to produce parts that meet provided specifications and quality standards.
  • Fabricate replacement and new parts for facility machinery to support ongoing production and maintenance needs.
  • Program and edit CNC programs using CAM software to optimize machining processes and part quality.
  • Operate conventional lathes, mills, drill presses, and other standard shop equipment as needed.
  • Perform routine dimensional and visual inspections of products using calipers, micrometers, scales, indicators, and other basic measuring equipment.
  • Carry out preventative and predictive maintenance on facility machinery to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot and repair facility machinery, including mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment in accordance with shop standards and safety practices.
  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to new employees to help them develop machining and programming skills.
  • Follow and maintain safety practices related to machining, including proper use of protective clothing, safety glasses, and other required equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers to coordinate work, resolve issues, and ensure smooth production flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall operation of the manufacturing facility.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of machining experience, including both manual machining and CNC machining.
  • Proficiency in setting up, programming, and operating CNC lathes and mills.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and vertical or horizontal cut-off saws.
  • Ability to program and edit CNC machines using CAM software.
  • Experience in performing complex CNC mill and lathe setups to produce quality parts to specification.
  • Proficiency in reading, comprehending, and interpreting 2D drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems on facility machinery.
  • Ability to perform routine dimensional and visual inspections using calipers, micrometers, scales, indicators, and similar measuring tools.
  • Reading, writing, and advanced arithmetic skills typically acquired through a high school diploma or advanced education.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn, retain, and apply information about products and equipment.
  • Manual dexterity for operating machinery and computers safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle frequent material lifting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other team members.
  • Ambitious work style with a quick pace, balanced by diligence and strong attention to detail.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and solutions-focused mindset with a "get it done" attitude.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using CAM software for CNC programming, with knowledge of Fusion 360 considered an asset.
  • Experience in both manual machining and programming, enabling versatility across different machines and tasks.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems to support troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Comfort working with standard shop equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to provide on-the-job training and mentorship to new team members.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical education or advanced degrees are beneficial.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing facility with normal production-floor conditions. The facility is heated in the winter and air-conditioned in the summer to provide a comfortable working climate. You will work primarily on manual and CNC machines, including lathes, mills, drill presses, and other standard shop equipment, during a day shift schedule of approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The role involves frequent lifting of materials up to 50 pounds and regular operation of machinery and tools. Safety is a priority, and you will use equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and work boots. Loose-fitting clothing and jewelry are not permitted to ensure safe operation around moving machinery. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety protocols while supporting a collaborative and friendly team atmosphere.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $84000.00/yr.
