About the Role

The Informatics Specialist role provides a liaison between clinical workflows and information technology in the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of clinical systems involved with the electronic health record (EHR) and associated technologies. The Informatics Specialist is responsible for workflow transformation, assessment, planning, design, re-design, validation, testing evaluation and end user training, implementation support, optimization, and adoption of clinical applications and processes. Focus is on being the advocate and change agent for facility leaders and clinicians to ensure maximum benefit for the EHR and its associated technologies.

POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with PSN facility leadership, department managers, clinicians and physicians to facilitate problem-solving and ongoing communication
  • Assists with communicating system downtime to end users and serves as resource for activities associated with the downtime
  • Provides status updates to the Director regarding end user adoption and sustainment of EHR and associated technologies
  • Leads and participates in meetings/committees for communication of status updates – i.e. project, adoption, and sustainment
  • Effectively communicates changes in standard practice, or functionality to affected end users. Consistently closes the feedback loop
  • Performs ongoing training for development of super-users, end users and new hires
  • Ensure training materials are updated to reflect current practice/workflow and competency
  • Collaborates with department leadership/clinical managers; educators; educates department in the development and provision of new hire (employees and contractors) EHR (and associate technologies) training
  • Identifies and assesses ongoing end user training needs and participates/provides retraining as needed
  • Develops and revises training material/course curricula and facilitates distribution of training material
  • Works with corporate to ensure updates are incorporated into training and provided just in time on an ongoing basis
  • Facilities ongoing EHR/clinical applications initiatives while being an advocate for end users (medical staff, nursing, ancillary, other clinicians, care providers/facility staff, patients/families)
  • Subject matter expert on EHR and associated technologies’ functionality and coordination with clinical workflows
  • Recognizes and recommends solution to improve clinical processes
  • Responsible for issue identification, escalation and ensuring a final resolution
  • Ongoing support and development of super users
  • Acts as liaison and provides ongoing support to end users to ensure clinical applications and workflow needs are met
  • Manages facility EHR change request process
  • Demonstrates project management success
  • Assists with identification, development and revision of policies and procedures related to clinical system workflows and processes
  • Facilitates the implementation of clinical information systems and workflow(s)
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, clinicians, facility administrators, ancillary departments and others to ensure that EHR and other clinicians support patient-centered best practices
  • Provides interdisciplinary leadership throughout the organization on all clinical initiates that support PSN standards and goals
  • Work with clinical departments to evaluate processes and workflows impacted by clinical systems
  • Ability to see the big picture and still focus on the day to day details, work on several complex issues at the same time, an d work effectively individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to consistently meet customer service standards
  • Functions as a clinical application subject matter expert and analyzes the EHR regularly to ensure all regulatory standards are met
  • Validates that all new regulatory standards are adopted into the EHR processes and workflow to ensure compliance
  • Performs workflow analysis, design, redesign, and documentation. Creates current and future workflows that support the clinical application
  • Evaluates clinical workflow for compliance to clinical standards
  • Ensure accuracy of data, work, and information
  • Attends relevant committee meetings as assigned
  • Ensures appropriate use of clinical systems by end users
  • Strives to continuously improve operations through quality improvement and sustain results
  • Evaluate adoption of clinical systems by hospital staff and implements activities to enhance adoption
  • Ensures meaningful use compliance
  • Assists in monitoring and reporting of outcomes, metrics, meaningful use and other quality related data
  • Serves as a resource to assist with monitoring and improvement system quality initiatives
  • Ensures department leadership is knowledgeable in the sue of reports for monitoring compliance, quality and performance measures
  • Identifies and creates automaticity within the EHR for regulatory reporting
  • Works in collaboration with the Clinical Informatics staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years of EHR informatics experience
  • Prefer an MSN with an Informatics Specialty or a Graduate Degree in Information Technology
