Job Description

Product Design Engineers are responsible for the process of creating, developing, and maintaining new and existing products. A product design engineer can be assigned specific products with-in the product portfolio as the subject matter expert. They research and develop ideas and processes for new products, improve the performance and design of existing products and oversee production of these products. Product Design Engineers work in a team environment with other design engineers and manufacturing. The position involves internal and external collaboration in various stages of design and manufacturing process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer’s requirements and develop a layout design of equipment to meet requirements. Design structures, linkages and assemblies to meet structural functional and aesthetic requirements.
  • Provide necessary drawings to allow manufacturing to fabricate and build cabinetry, doors, ports, vents etc.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate components to meet functional requirements while minimizing overall costs.
  • Evaluate new equipment and methods for fabrication of components by manufacturing.
  • Develop designs for commercial, domestic and industrial uses.
  • Directs activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
  • Directs and coordinates operation, maintenance, repair or equipment and systems in field installations.
  • Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks using software such as AutoCAD and Solidworks.
  • Lead assigned product developments from prototyping through product maturity by developing and controlling “Task” lists.
  • Communicates with customers to discuss problems/improvements.
  • Investigate improvements/cost saving opportunities for assigned products.
  • Assist sales and service with quotes and budgets for assigned product accounts
  • Review and approve drawing packages of peers.
  • Review and approve engineering changes as the subject matter expert of the assigned product.

Qualifications

  • Must be detailed oriented and understand the importance of accuracy
  • Strong Technical abilities
  • Strong Written and Oral communication skills
  • Work in a team environment and be safety oriented
  • Current working knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel and Word)
  • Experienced in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Bachelors of Science
  • 1-5 years’ of experience

Working Conditions

Periodic stationary work with frequent movement throughout the facility to access chambers, files, office machinery, etc. Works at a desk and a computer screen for extended periods of time. Employee must be able to manually enter data to the computer system and understand the screen and images that appear. Frequently lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs. Use of hands to hold, lift and handle materials. Occasional climbing, bending and squatting. Periodic travel may be involved. When traveling, significant portions of travel time (both car and air) may involve extended sedentary periods. Subject to weather and adverse driving conditions when outside.
