Job Description
This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC mill machines and an Amada laser machine to produce high-quality parts in a climate-controlled, medium-sized shop. You will interpret blueprints and technical drawings, perform precise measurements, and ensure that all finished parts meet quality standards. The position requires a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who can work independently, maintain equipment, and support a clean and safe work environment while meeting quick turnaround times.
Responsibilities
- Set up CNC mill machines and adjust settings as needed to meet production and quality requirements.
- Set up and operate a CNC Amada laser machine, serving as the primary operator responsible for its setup and daily operation.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine specifications, tolerances, and machining sequences.
- Operate mills and laser cutters to fabricate parts according to specifications, ensuring proper assembly and mechanical fit where required.
- Inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC mills and the laser machine, including basic troubleshooting to resolve mechanical or operational issues.
- Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal production efficiency and part quality.
- Use laser operation techniques safely and effectively to cut materials according to blueprint requirements.
- Document and communicate any issues with equipment, materials, or quality to appropriate team members.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards and safety procedures.
- Work efficiently to meet quick turnaround times, adjusting pace and priorities based on production demands.
- Demonstrate consistent attendance, a strong work ethic, and a professional attitude while staying focused on tasks during working hours.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 2+ years of experience setting up and operating CNC mills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.
- Hands-on experience with CNC mill setup and mill operating, including adjusting machine parameters.
- Experience with laser operation and laser cutters, including setting up laser machines for production.
- Familiarity with Haas or similar CNC equipment.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers for inspection.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic fabrication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform inspection and ensure part quality according to specifications.
- Troubleshooting skills for resolving machine and process issues.
- Excellent attendance record, with reliability and punctuality.
- Positive attitude, strong effort, and willingness to stay focused and productive during work hours.
- Trainable and open to learning new processes, equipment, and techniques.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a machine shop or fabrication environment.
- Comfort working independently as the primary operator of a CNC Amada laser machine.
- Ability to adapt to varying workloads, from low-key periods to urgent, high-priority production runs.
- Strong communication skills to report issues and collaborate with supervisors and team members.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistent quality standards.

Work Environment
The role is based in a fairly laid-back, medium-sized shop that balances a relaxed atmosphere with the ability to respond quickly to urgent production needs. The facility is climate controlled and not noisy or loud, providing a comfortable environment for focused work. You will work primarily on CNC mills and a CNC Amada laser machine, along with standard precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers. The schedule is a first shift, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with optional work on Fridays; on the rare occasions when Friday work becomes mandatory, it is typically only for a partial day until around mid-day. Leadership on the floor is described as mellow, with an expectation that employees remain productive and stay off personal cell phones while on the clock. The shop emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and consistent productivity while maintaining a reasonable, professional dress appropriate for a machine shop environment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $87000.00/yr.
