U.S. Department of Justice | Federal Bureau of Prisons Location: FCI La Tuna, Anthony, Texas


The Federal Bureau of Prisons is seeking a potential qualifiedPhysician Assistant to provide temporary medical services for the Adult in Custody (AIC) population at FCI La Tuna. This role involves working within a correctional environment to deliver comprehensive primary and emergency care.


Position Overview

  • Role: Physician Assistant (Advanced Practice Provider)
  • Schedule: typically Monday Wednesday.
  • Hours: Maximum of 24 hours per week.
  • Duration: 120 workdays per year (Base Period)
  • Shift: Generally 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.


Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care: Conduct sick calls, take medical histories, perform physical exams, and develop treatment plans.
  • Diagnostics: Order and interpret laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Procedures: Manage injuries via suturing, splinting, and immobilization; perform minor clinical procedures.
  • Emergency Response: Provide primary care for trauma and life-saving procedures as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate electronic medical records (BEMR) and review test results within 24 hours.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Health Services Administrator, Clinical Director, and other medical staff.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Licensure: Current, valid Physician Assistant license and certification.
  • Certification: Current BLS (AHA) certification.
  • Competency: Demonstrated clinical proficiency and current Malpractice Insurance ($1M/$3M).
  • Skills: Proficiency in word processing and electronic health record systems.
  • Background: Must pass a comprehensive security clearance, including NCIC check, fingerprinting, and urinalysis.
  • Attire: Professional navy or black surgical scrubs (khaki and dark brown are prohibited).
