Job Summary:
The Construction Manager will oversee and coordinate various construction projects from start to finish, ensuring that schedules and budgets are followed. The Construction Manager’s ability to deliver projects according to established schedules is critical to the ability of all i3 Broadband business units to meet their goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Selects, contracts, and oversees contractors for specific needs.
- Supervises each contractor and subcontractor to ensure that work is on schedule and meets quality standards and specifications.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Plans, coordinates, organizes, oversees, and directs activities regarding construction projects, ensuring a diverse group of stakeholders are all working in concert.
- Schedules and coordinates projects in logical steps and budgets the time necessary to meet each deadline.
- Monitors vendor performance, develops and implements strategies for improvements where needed, and replaces vendors if required.
- Manages and leads actions that are necessary due to delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction sites.
- Develops and maintains good working relationships with a variety of people, including colleagues, vendors, and government officials.
- Prepares and submits budget estimates and regularly communicates with stakeholders concerning budget progress and costs.
- Ensures adherence to the budget and, when unexpected complications or issues arise, makes quick and necessary adjustments.
- Supports contract negotiations, revisions, and adherence by all parties.
- Coordinates and problem solves without being on-site
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations.
- Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, and work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
- Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems.
- Ability to work both independently on the heads-down analytical work and collaboratively as part of a team when needed to solve problems
- Thorough understanding of engineering and other construction drawings.
- Clean driving record required, with the ability to travel locally and occasionally overnight.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum five years of construction management experience required.
- Minimum 2 years of telecommunications construction or design experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of the job sites in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Some travel required
- Better than average visual acuity when inspecting drawings and blueprints.
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the job site.
