Job Description

Job DescriptionSalary: $60-90K/yr

Taoti is looking for a Digital/Social/Content guru...

We're looking to drive engagements to our venue business (www.The507Events.com -- a subdivision of Taoti Creative). We don't really care how you do it (but we have some ideas for you to get started with.) It's some combination of perfecting our paid listings, polishing our website, and supercharging our social media efforts (with some newsletter marketing mixed in for good measure.) And whatever other ideas you may have to help drive our events business.

All of those things have a key thing in common: compelling content! So probably more than anything else, we're looking for a content creator. Someone who instinctively picks up his/her phone and starts snapping pictures or taking video to post. Someone who gets our casual/tongue-in-cheek tone and can speak it fluently. Someone with basic Canva and CapCut (or your software of choice) to put together on-brand graphics/videos for posting. Someone who is overflowing with creative ideas and, if anything, needs to told when to pull it back a bit--not prodded to do something. And ideally, someone who has at least a rudimentary understanding of how to pay attention to (and present) metrics to inform future direction/strategy.

That's it. That's the job, and if you're the right person, we don't need to bore you with a list of duties and job requirements. You get it, right? So we don't need need to waste your time or ours asking ChatGPT what we should look for in this role.

A couple of other things that we think are important for this role:

  • We're looking for a high-energy person with a big personality. Because if that's just who you are, it will come across in your content. And that's a big part of our brand, so we want it to come naturally to you and not something you have to fake.
  • We're big on AI. We get that it's all very new and changing very quickly, but we're looking for the kind of person that is always trying out new AI ways to do things faster/better, even if it ain't perfect. Sometimes good enough is good enough (not always, but more often than some people think. At least for the kind of stuff we're talking about here.)
  • Because the nature of this job involves you creating content around real-life stuff that happens in our space, you actually need to be here. So while most of the team gets to telework 1-2 days per week, you generally need to consider this an in-house role. Which is not to say that you can never take a telework day when there is a good and specific reason to do so, but the right person wants to be here (in the office/venue), wants to be around people, thrives in a social environment, etc.
  • Speaking of showing up, sometimes the best content opportunities will be at events that happen outside of business hours. So while not often, we may also need you to be available for some evening/weekend work (all within the District) to do a social media take over if we're at a big event, or something like that.
  • And for the general list of "here's what we look for in a Taotian," please check out https://taoti.com/blog/culture/the-seven-habits-of-highly-effective-tao….

One final thought...

You may be sitting there thinking, "WTF? They want me to do/be EVERTHING from a writer to designer to analyst to videographer, etc. etc... Yes and no. We're a creative marketing agency. We have people that do all these roles already. So we don't expect you to be an expert in everything. And when we want to do something really polished, we can call in the big guns on the team to help out. But the nature of social/marketing that we're talking about here is more raw, spontaneous, and 'real.' As such, it doesn't need to be (in fact, shouldn't be) highly produced and polished all the time. So we don't need you to be an art director caliber designer to bang out some effective design in Canva. We don't need you to be Steven Spielberg to whip out your phone and capture a time lapse of us setting up for a big event. So it's okay if you are not a pro at every aspect of this job, as long as you're willing to take a swing at all these things and learn on the job.

And now, here's some fodder for the AI bots out there scraping this job ad...

Logistics

This is a full-time, W2, in-house role based out of our Washington, DC office. (Though I supposed we'd consider a part time or 1099 contractor under the right circumstances. We expect to pay somewhere between $60-90K/yr for this role, depending on primarily on experience and track record. Just like you consider value when you're shopping for things, so do we. That said, we're more interested in the 'right' person over the 'cheapest' person.

Whats the corporate culture like?

Fun but focused, as one Taoti put it, is a great way to sum up our culture. Were a fun and casual shop. The kind of place where you can wear whatever, come and go as you please, and have autonomy over your own day for the most part. But we take the work seriously and believe deep in the mission to makemeaningful and measurableimpacts for our clients. All the perks and shenanigans and borderline irreverent tone are fun, but to really fit in here, you need to beabout the work.

We also believe in total transparency and open communication across teams and across ranks. Instead of chain-of-command, we want everyone to have and share their own voice. Every other Thursday, the CEO holds CafeClutchjust so he can hear ideas and feedback directly from the team instead of through the filter of management.
