This full-time Educational Assistant / Paraprofessional position supports K-12 students in a diverse school setting in Espanola, NM. The role focuses on inclusion classrooms and resource/learning centers, serving elementary through high school students with a range of severe disabilities and behavioral challenges. The contract runs from August 5, 2025, through May 29, 2026, with 35 hours of work per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist classroom teachers in managing instructional activities and supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Work closely with students exhibiting behavioral challenges, implementing strategies to encourage positive behavior and de-escalate situations.
- Provide one-on-one and group support to students with severe disabilities, facilitating their engagement and participation.
- Support learning goals such as letter recognition and foundational literacy skills.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, including specialized trainings (e.g., CPI, Braille).
- Adapt to different grade levels, from elementary through high school, in both inclusion and resource classroom settings.
Qualifications and Experience:
- High school diploma required.
- Experience working with children with disabilities and/or behavioral challenges in a classroom environment.
- Valid New Mexico drivers license.
- Ability to obtain or possession of mandated Educational Assistant and/or Substitute Teacher license.
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing training and professional growth.
