Job DescriptionJob Title: Journeyman Structural Steel Welder and Erector
Job Description

This role involves performing structural steel welding and erection for a boiler room platform expansion within a food processing manufacturing facility. You will use your advanced welding, fitting, and rigging skills to safely assemble and install structural steel components in accordance with project specifications and blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Erect structural steel components for boiler room platform expansion projects, ensuring accurate placement and secure installation.
  • Perform structural steel welding using SMAW and GMAW processes in all positions to meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Assemble and fit steel members and components prior to welding, verifying dimensions and alignment according to blueprints.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and project plans to determine layout, measurements, and welding requirements.
  • Apply proper rigging practices, including the use of slings, shackles, and other lifting devices, to safely move and position steel components.
  • Calculate loads and apply appropriate rigging and lifting techniques to ensure safe and efficient handling of materials.
  • Communicate and interpret crane signals clearly to support safe lifting and placement of structural elements.
  • Inspect welds and structural assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with safety and project requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all site-specific safety rules and procedures.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and adhere to OSHA safety standards throughout all tasks.

Essential Skills

  • At least 4+ years of verifiable experience as a structural steel welder and erector.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in structural steel erection and welding in construction or industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) welding processes in all positions.
  • Proficiency in GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) welding processes in all positions.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and structural drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience in fitting and assembly of structural steel components.
  • Knowledge of rigging practices, including selection and use of rigging equipment.
  • Ability to perform load calculations to ensure safe lifting and rigging operations.
  • Familiarity with crane signals and ability to communicate effectively with crane operators.
  • Current OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Experience working on industrial or processing facility projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and assemblies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other trades and project team members.
  • Solid understanding of general construction site safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and safety.

Work Environment

This role is based in a food processing manufacturing environment with very clean, safe, and predominantly indoor working conditions. You will work around processing equipment and structural steel installations, following strict safety and cleanliness standards appropriate for a food production facility. The environment is structured, organized, and focused on maintaining high levels of safety and hygiene while completing industrial construction and expansion projects.

This is a Contract position based out of Phoenix, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $38.00/hr.
