Primary Purpose:

Under the direction of the Municipal Solid Waste Superintendent, responsible for accuracy of cash handling, charge systems, daily balance reports, and for ensuring that the rules and regulations regarding dumping are followed.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma / GED

3 + yrs of clerical work

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to perform recordkeeping tasks.

Ability to multitask and prioritize workload appropriately.

Must be responsible, reliable and prompt.

Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and the public.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Essential Duties:

  • Determines the type of charge to be levied on incoming loads to the landfill;

  • Prepares fee tickets on vehicles entering landfill site by recording the number of passengers, gross and tare weight of the vehicles, kind of material hauled, account code, and vehicle identification.

  • Reconcile balances of money received.

  • Operates a computer in the process of determining the weight loads and charges for incoming loads.

  • Prepares daily reports on tonnage received and disposed of in the landfill.

  • Notifies the Municipal Solid Waste Superintendent, or his/her designee, of loads requiring special disposition.

  • Collects fees, makes proper change and issues receipts for cash loads received at the landfill.

  • Answers inquiries and forwards complaints regarding City services, procedures and fees to the Superintendent.

  • Keeps accurate records of cash and supply inventory.

  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

  • Housekeeping duties of the interior of the scale house, including restrooms, floors, and general upkeep.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Working Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Computer, tablet, calculator, copier, fax, telephone, and other common office equipment.

Posture: Prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling, stooping, bending, stretching and reaching.

Motion: Frequent sitting to standing, frequent wrist and elbow flexion, fingertip gripping; repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse.

Lifting: Frequent light to moderate lifting; occasional heavy lifting (up to 40 lbs.).

Environment: Indoor regulated temperatures, bright sunlight, artificial light, occasional outdoor exposure.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under pressure; work with frequent interruption; may be subject to adverse confrontations; ability to assess workload and properly prioritize duties; ability to be cognizant of your surroundings while concentrating on your duties at your workstation.
