Job Description:
The Licensed Practical Nurse will administer basic nursing care to patients under the direct supervision of the RN. The LPN is guided by a good knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in performing basic nursing services, familiarity with the organization, its functions, policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Administers general nursing care to patients in an assigned area under the supervision of the physician.
- Performs therapeutic procedures and treatments within the scope of license and in accordance with policies.
- Takes initiative to identify appropriate patient needs ( referrals ) and collaborates with registrar, physician and managed care coordinator as necessary.
- Administers medications as prescribed utilizing knowledge of contraindications and normal dosage and documents in patient record drug, dosage, route, date, time and legible signature title.
- Identifies abnormal diagnostic studies and lab results to M.D. and documents.
- Administers narcotics orally or intramuscularly except in pediatrics and newborns.
- Transcribes, implements and documents providers orders in accordance with policies and standards. Reports and records results of nursing interventions and makes all significant information known immediately to the Physician.
- Identifies the learning needs of the patient and/or significant other and initiates measures to meet these needs according to the Health Education Standards and documents patient education on teaching report.
- Communicates in a professional and appropriate manner with patients and all members of the health care team.
- Maintains working knowledge of managed care guidelines as relates to patient care and referral/authorization process.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or Equivalency Required
- Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing Required
- NYS LPN License Required
- 1 year experience as LPN preferred
