Job DescriptionSalary: $22-$25 per Hour DOE

Job Summary:

The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and courteous transportation of residents to and from medical appointments, community outings, and facility-sponsored activities. The driver ensures all passengers are transported safely while maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal driving regulations, as well as facility policies and RCFE regulations. The Van Driver reports directly to the Administrator.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a passenger bus or van to transport elderly residents.
  • Assist residents with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including those with mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers, canes).
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers by following traffic laws and defensive driving practices.
  • Perform daily vehicle safety checks (tires, brakes, lights, etc.) and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, comfortable, and presentable vehicle interior at all times.
  • Accurately log trips, mileage, passenger counts, and destinations.
  • Coordinate transportation schedule with facility staff.
  • Escort residents to/from their destinations as needed, ensuring safety at all times.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or unexpected situations while on the road.
  • Follow all RCFE regulations and facility policies related to resident rights, safety, and dignity.
  • Participate in in-service training and safety drills as required.


Required Experience, Education, & Skills:

  • Minimum Age: 18 years (or as required by state regulations)
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Licensing:
  • Valid California Drivers License (Class B with passenger endorsement)
  • Current DMV driving record (clean record)
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • Experience:
  • 1+ year of professional driving experience preferred, ideally with seniors or in healthcare
  • Experience operating wheelchair lifts and securing mobility devices is a plus
  • Understanding of the needs of elderly or disabled passengers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure or in emergencies
  • Physical ability to assist passengers and lift up to [2550] lbs
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and safety checks
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and resident confidentiality
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, TB test, and background check


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to assist residents with mobility devices, including pushing wheelchairs.
  • Tolerance for working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
