Responsibilities
- Organize and facilitate the patient’s care while in the operating room (OR).
- Coordinate the overall care of the patient between the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and room staff.
- Function as the first assistant during surgical incision, excision, and repair of pathology throughout the perioperative period on procedures with granted privileges.
- Participate in preoperative assessment and planning for selected surgical patients in collaboration with the healthcare team in the preoperative location.
- Regularly demonstrate subject matter expertise regarding medication, treatment, and patient care standards.
- Provide intraoperative patient care and OR support in accordance with perioperative policies; collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and continuity of care.
Requirements
- Active California Registered Nurse license (RN) and eligibility to practice as a first assistant under granted privileges.
- Perioperative nursing experience or prior first-assist experience preferred.
- Ability to participate in preoperative planning and intraoperative care within an operating room setting.
- Education: Nursing degree (ADN or BSN) from an accredited program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of perioperative medication and patient care standards; strong communication with surgical team and adherence to sterile technique.
